It’s us versus them—‘them’ being whoever those at the keyboards and levers of power tell us it is—and they must be crushed like bugs lest they crush us.
So the message goes, so the voters vote, and so the soldiers field their weapons.
It appears we’re not advanced enough to do it any other way.
