"Despite pleas from Democrats and gut-wrenching testimony from doctors and rape survivors, a GOP-controlled legislative committee rejected a bill Tuesday that would have added cases of rape and incest as exceptions to Louisiana’s abortion ban."
@wdlindsy Bacteria reproduces uncontrollably until it crashes. We are smarter, well beyond the point of “the more, the merrier”. This Old Time Religion BS must be rejected because of excessive numbers and for collective reproductive health. These Asshats also want to ban contraception. No wonder they’ve become a Thump cult.
Their anti-abortion zeal, hopefully a bridge too far, may this negative karma bite the GOzP Asses on their backsides. 🔥
@Huntn00 I would hope you're right about the sanity of the majority prevailing. Unfortunately, the power of the minority to rule the majority is baked into the US political system via the Electoral College and the Senate, and with a Supreme Court packed with right-wing theocratic ideologues as a result, the minority seems to be given control on steroids.
@wdlindsy I used to say that the Electoral college was double edged, but there have been too many elections where it has bitten us. Popular vote would produce better outcomes. And Trump putting 3 justices on SCOTUS is like icing on the putrid cake. 😬
"In the reliably red state, which is firmly ensconced in the Bible Belt and where even some Democrats oppose abortions, adding exceptions to Louisiana’s strict law has been an ongoing battle for advocates — with a similar measure failing last year. Currently, of the 14 states with abortion bans at all stages of pregnancy, six have exceptions in cases of rape and five have exceptions for incest."
@JamesBazan I agree. Not at all coincidental. It all coheres, with misogyny and patriarchy providing the cement to hold it all together. It's all about checking women as they seek rights and subjecting women to male control.l
