This morning at 7:31, #Trump ripped Judge Merchan online — before it was public that Stormy Daniels would be testifying — saying, "I have just recently been told who the witness is today. This is unprecedented … No Judge has ever run a trial in such a biased and partisan way."
This is angling, on the part of Trump. He knows the next violation can well mean jail, so he'll try (in my estimation) to trigger that with the most inconsequential post he can. To make the most of it both in the public opinion, and in a possible appeal. He's going for the minimum over the line that can get him jailed.
NFL : Love it. When it's up on the internet, and it's a high-profile item like a Trump post, it will never be deleted, not for real. The watchful internet doesn't just keep its receipts: it photocopies them and stores them in a notarized file.
Be nice if one of the primary rules of a gag order were "no take-backsies", but I know there's always going to be a level of uncertainty there, especially when it comes to social networking -- one can but hope a modicum of sanity prevails.
@GottaLaff Aaw, Trump does care about not going to jail after all.
But then again, that's not exactly news to the majority of us who didn't drink the MAGA Kool Aid nor believe that a criminal defendant spending a few days in the pokey would rival the Jesus's martyrdom.
@GottaLaff My goodness. Surely not consequences? Blanche will probably claim he was told the judge was fair game and he hasn’t slagged off a specific witness or the jury.
I reckon it will be another pathetic fine.
Equality under the rule of law, ain’t it grand?
@toxy@GottaLaff this post seems borderline as a gag order violation - certainly I’d be reluctant to make it the basis for throwing him in jail. My guess is the prosecutors don’t complain about this one unless Trump does more and it’s included as part of a group of violations.
@GottaLaff@rabbijill doesn't matter. Prosecution should file a complaint and the screen shot - IF someone got one (and it would be malpractice NOT to be watching his account).
It's like me slapping someone and them immediately apologizing. The apology hardly matters.
Even if he takes it down, he "said" it and a million people potentially "heard" him. Taking it down is a post-violation action. Posting it in the first place is a violation.
@Eddiethebulldog@rabbijill Yes I know that. I’m looking at it from the judge’s perspective and how he’s handled other posts. I’m not saying what he should or shouldn’t do.
