Less than a majority supported Hamas, but they were able to form a government (as less than a majority supported Netanyahu in the most recent Israeli elections but he was able to form a government when the Left couldn’t unite). Since then Hamas hasn’t allowed elections, which tells you about their support prior to the Israeli invasion.
