@breadandcircuses Plastic can be incinerated with other wastes and help produce heat or even electricity. That works better than one thinks, the biggest catch is that it mainly works in large cities or the energetic cost of transporting waste to the incinerator is higher than the energy within.
But yes: the best way is to produce less waste, plastic or other types.
