I want to dissect this idea that the leftist making people more divided. What is more divided? The world where no one (with power) expects women to do any science, so there are no women in science? or the world where women are making their way into science causing some friction on the way?
Demanding equality may force those who don’t care about it to defend their stratification— and I guess that makes them feel “divided”? is that it?

That's exactly it. When they don't hear anyone complaining they assume everyone is happy. When people start speaking out in ways they can hear they get mad because "everyone was happy until you showed up!"
