It might be time for me to go on a news diet again. There are too many events that are beyond my control and influence and it's not effective to let such things be primary sources of worry.
Worrying about things you can't change.
Nothing I hear about the Supreme Court is calming or confidence inspiring. None of the news about the wars ... Where are the people in these events guided by something bigger than self interest, petty politics, where are the idealists?
@futurebird They're drastically archiving and downloading their work, art and everything else the enshittified internet is stealing, mangling, and using to lie to the public.
@futurebird in the 60s it was civil rights. In the 70s it was Vietnam. People were protesting. Making their voices heard. George Floyd was another turning point. It all made a difference. We are being bombarded by one side of the isle, enforcing changes in social issues that were previously settled. There doesn't seem to be that "get involved" mentality. As you say there is so much going on. And it's likely by design.
If we don't vote this out, the other side is determined to press forward. Since there's no galvanizing point, voting is the answer? I hope so.
@futurebird depending on type, we idealists are getting steamrolled by the Zeitgeist, and are either working quietly or creating the very news that you wish to tune out
(I am in the former camp and planning a news diet myself to protect it)
@futurebird This toot was at the top of feed, followed by multiple toots of people referencing some headlines that made me very depressed and anxious, so I might have to do the same 🙃
@futurebird news diets are healthy, thanks for the reminder! Complete abstinence however is not, I think. Even if things are going apeshit, it's better to know, especially when it's about time to side step some flying excrement.
And maybe, just maybe, once in a while, you'll have the opportunity to help some unfortunate creature that deserved better. That in itself is a source of great joy for me.
