Granted, they’re a volcanic island that sits at the tip of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge so it’s relatively easier for them to access this type of energy, but it’s seems like it is a pretty reliable source of green energy.
The heat energy in the earth is already there, so why not use it?
When money comes from the taxpayers and goes to people who are friends with the money-allocating decision maker people, it's not a "waste," from the decision makers' point of view.
Also applies to "expensive" wars, and also does a lot to explain why funding schools or the USPS is hard but funding the military is super easy. It's not a cost; it's a big ol' haystack of cash that fell from the sky, and we gotta do that again real soon, man.
Maybe an addendum for wars is there are 95,000+ public schools and 19 large defense contractors. Funneling the money to the few is our (stupid) american way.
But for real every single time I used one of these I always ended up with a melted piece of plastic stuck to one of the pieces of clothes I washed. Stopped using them because of that.
