Note: Politico is owned by Axel Springer, a German right-wing media conglomerate with a rather "on again, off again" relationship with truth and a strong anti-government stance. They're basically German News Corp.

The thesis of this article is that Germany under both Scholz and Merkel put profits over human rights. They've ignored warnings and pressure from allies in pursuit of those profits and are under economic pressure to continue to do so. Hardly a far-right position. I doubt anyone would have an issue with it if didn't have a terrible headline.

Multiple organizations rate Politico as "center left" or "leans left" in terms of editorial bias and, per the included link, they have not failed a single fact check in the last five years. They've actually been rated as shifting slightly to the left since they were bought by Axel Springer.

FTA:

"By now you know what became of Swampy: He was found dead a few weeks ago with a gunshot wound to his right temple, “apparently” self-inflicted, on what was meant to be the third day of a three-day deposition in his whistleblower case against his former employer; his amended complaint, which his lawyer released last week, is the basis for much of this story.

It is worth noting here that Swampy’s former co-workers universally refuse to believe that their old colleague killed himself. One former co-worker who was terrified of speaking publicly went out of their way to tell me that they weren’t suicidal. “If I show up dead anytime soon, even if it’s a car accident or something, I’m a safe driver, please be on the lookout for foul play.”"

That's fucking chilling.

Fixbeat , in Suicide Mission: What Boeing did to all the guys who remember how to build a plane

Sounds about right. More great work from these super valuable executives who must be paid astronomical salaries so that they won’t leave.

Not a single name in the article. Weak.

HoustonHenry , in Jeffrey Epstein's Island Visitors Exposed by Data Broker

Why do I get the distinct feeling this will go the way of the Panama Papers?

nick ,

Yeah. Turns out the data killed itself next week with two to the back of the head. Another sad suicide!

And even if the Jews were to win the war, its end would find the unique possibilities and the unique achievements of Zionism in Palestine destroyed. The land that would come into being would be something quite other than the dream of world Jewry, Zionist and non-Zionist. The ‘victorious’ Jews would live surrounded by an entirely hostile Arab population, secluded into ever-threatened borders, absorbed with physical self-defense to a degree that would submerge all other interests and acitvities. The growth of a Jewish culture would cease to be the concern of the whole people; social experiments would have to be discarded as impractical luxuries; political thought would center around military strategy…. And all this would be the fate of a nation that — no matter how many immigrants it could still absorb and how far it extended its boundaries (the whole of Palestine and Transjordan is the insane Revisionist demand)–would still remain a very small people greatly outnumbered by hostile neighbors.

Under such circumstances… the Palestinian Jews would degenerate into one of those small warrior tribes about whose possibilities and importance history has amply informed us since the days of Sparta. Their relations with world Jewry would become problematical, since their defense interests might clash at any moment with those of other countries where large number of Jews lived. Palestine Jewry would eventually separate itself from the larger body of world Jewry and in its isolation develop into an entirely new people. Thus it becomes plain that at this moment and under present circumstances a Jewish state can only be erected at the price of the Jewish homeland…

And even if...

The notion of "if" can very well be used in philosophy and many other disciplines.

In historical terms it is not a viable notion. If just one single event would occur differently, it would trigger a chain of events that would change. The number of speculations about those potentials is literally infinite.

JoMomma , in With Navalny’s death, Russians lose their last hope

Navalny's entire message to the world and to Russians in particular, was that he was absolutely not their last hope and that he represented the minds and hearts of the quiet majority

PhlubbaDubba , in With Navalny’s death, Russians lose their last hope

You all realize there's more than one opposition movement within Russia right? Navalny was just the most well known outside of Russia.

There is continued international support for a two-state solution, but the current Israeli government insists on maintaining control over the West Bank under the guise of security. In the short run, this prolongs the life of that regime, but in the long run it will bring its own undoing.

One can only hope.

Oderus , in Russian banks post record profits. Is war helping them?
@Oderus@lemmy.world avatar

I don't trust a word that comes from Russia.

Like Trump, they lie so often everything they say is suspect.

Candelestine , in Zelensky move to fire general leaves Ukraine guessing who will command war

He's done an admirable job, but his declaration of a stalemate was a gift to people in the US that wanted to cut Ukraine funding. "Why fund a stalemate? Their own general said it was one."

I'm sure he meant well, but that piece had unintended consequences.

Pogbom , in U.N. Climate Chief Warns Countries Against ‘Hiding Behind Loopholes’

I'm surprised he didn't call out Canada. Turns out Alberta's oilsands were producing 6700% more emissions than they reported.

taanegl , in For Europe and NATO, a Russian Invasion Is No Longer Unthinkable

NGL, Russia is fucking around - they better pray they don't find out, cus the last thing this world wants is Europe becoming militarized again.

Not that Europe doesn't have weapons manufacturing. Oh no. There's PLENTY of military technology in Europe that makes Russian military seem like Gravy Seals.

Not to mention, plenty of countries want more conscripts, besides the Nordics - because conscription is mandatory, and most Nordic wargames are tailored to deal with Russian invaders. No joke.

In the end, if Russia has depleted their resources fighting Ukraine, even with international support, consider what would happen if the British, Italian, German, Polish and French war machines get revved up again.

The Chinese would invest immediately.
