psvrh , in How ‘Zionist’ became a slur on the US left
@psvrh@lemmy.ca avatar

Nationalism is almost always bad, why should Israeli Nationalism be any different?

Ask yourself: if it was any other country or ethnicity, would it be "good" nationalism? Would an American or Russian Nationalist worry you? How about a Rwandan or Serbian nationalist?

Chances are the answer is "yes" (unless you're a fascist), so why does Israeli nationalism get a free pass?

BananaTrifleViolin , in How ‘Zionist’ became a slur on the US left

Zionism has always been highly controversial. It is a political movement but it's proponents try and paint it as a central and indelible part of Jewish identity - trying to make it seem as if to attack zionism is to attack Judaism. This is of course utter bullshit.

It's a common tactic of the zionist movement to try and equate anti-zionism with being anti-semetic. But zionism is a nationalist political ideology, not an ethnic identity.

It is not anti-semetic to attack zionism, just as it is not unamerican to attack the Republican Party.

FearfulSalad , in Katie Britt proposes federal database to collect data on pregnant people

Is it bad that my first thought goes to "have you tried a federal database that keeps track of guns, gun owners, and gun ownership applicants?" And yet I know this new idiocy is far more likely to happen than the much more reasonable yet somehow illegal federal gun registry.

Rapidcreek , in German lawmakers support plans to protect Ukrainian airspace from NATO territory by means of Western air defense

This is a provocative move. NATO had better agree to this, not just the Germans

DarkThoughts ,
  1. It's not a move, let alone a provocative one, it's a discussion.
  2. Germany is very much cooperating and talking with other NATO members, including those at the eastern borders.
  3. Germany is an independent country and does not need some sort of "NATO permit" to do things if they choose to do so.
Rapidcreek ,

It's provocative because ordinance launched from a German or NATO base would result in a Russian engagement which in turn result in a NATO engagement.

DarkThoughts ,

If you think launching defensive measures for an ally is provocative, then how do you view & call launching offensive measures through imperialistic ambitions within a peaceful independent country?
If Russia wants to avoid a conflict with NATO, maybe they should just avoid their illegal aggression and retreat back to within their own borders.

Rapidcreek ,

It's not a this or that proposition. Russia is very much aware how to bring NATO into the conflict, yet they don't. If NATO wanted to start a war with Russia, this is one way to do it. But, be careful what you wish for. Unintended consequences.

hanrahan ,
@hanrahan@slrpnk.net avatar

Thats literally what I wish for. The entire reasons The Greens are about this is because they know appeasement never works with bullies.

Bringing NATO in would end the war

It might see the end of Russia and if thats what Russia wants they can launch a nuc but I suspect Vald wants to enjoy his billions and his mansion.

snooggums , in Target Pride merchandise only available at select stores after rightwing backlash
@snooggums@midwest.social avatar

Last August, CEO Brian Cornell told reporters that Target learned from the backlash and said the company would be more thoughtful about merchandise decisions for heritage months that celebrate the achievements of marginalized groups.

By thoughtful they mean not celebrating the achievements of marginalized groups.

henfredemars , in Katie Britt proposes federal database to collect data on pregnant people

It’s worse than that. It proposes connecting pregnant people with hack job services that do not offer or consider abortion. You know, those places that prey on vulnerable women specifically to coerce them into having a baby whether or not that’s actually the right decision for them. It promotes ideology and dogma over science and dignity.

And I write women here because those services are most certainly not up-to-date with modern gender ideology. Conservative healthcare isn’t healthcare, because healthcare is science. Or at least it’s supposed to be.

It would be really gross seeing a pregnancy.gov website promoting ideas that hurt women.

America keeps fighting fascism outside of US, but invites it with open arms to their legislative bodies. Look for the post in !databreaches once the data is inevitably leaked.

stembolts , in Target Pride merchandise only available at select stores after rightwing backlash

Pride isn't pride if it's quiet, or "select".

Terrorism works.

Kolanaki , in ‘Duty to report’ child abuse laws will not apply to doctors, teachers or nurses

The ones most likely to see evidence of abuse. Of course. Makes perfect sense.

1984 , in Record-breaking increase in CO2 levels in world’s atmosphere
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Could be fixed by countries adding tax funded discount on leasing electric cars, since fossil fuel consumption is the largest source.

Make it possible for everyone to lease a new, modern electric car with a large discount.

BrikoX OP Mod ,
@BrikoX@lemmy.zip avatar

EVs only minimizes the CO2 consumption, since actual car production (especially batteries) creates stitton of CO2. So while it's better, incentivizing something that still contributes to the problem is not a real solution.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Perfect is the enemy of progress. Since there are no silver bullets, I would go for a solution that helps instead of being passive. But that's me. :)

card797 , in Israel-Hamas war: Netanyahu vows his country will 'stand alone' if it has to after Biden's weapons supply threat

Exactly as it should have been doing this whole time.

FMT99 , in David Cameron says UK will not withhold arms sales to Israel

Man was I disappointed to see David freaking Cameron's face back in the news.

card797 ,

That's LORD Cameron to you, peasant. Barffff

drathvedro , in Women-only museum becomes a toilet to keep men out

brb gonna change my private school's status to a urinal because I believe that women's place is at home and therefore they shouldn't get any education. For a good a good measure, I'll do the same to the office building, the driving school, and the airline I own.

1984 , in Flame retardants in auto seats pose multiple health risks, research shows
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Another reason to work from home! Not that we need any more.

casmael , in AstraZeneca requests European authorisation of Covid vaccine be pulled

Huh any info about why they’ve requested this? The article doesn’t go into very much detail

applepie ,

They recently admitted in court filing that their VAX does in fact have side effects. Presumably related to this.

They also covered these risks when bringing VAX to market.

We really need to find who did this and serve them some rope.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Does it matter what they admit? These companies always wait for many years to admit anything. By then the damage to people is done.

Of course one could argue that if everyone would vaccinate, almost everyone would be better off, except people with side effects. But I can absolutely understand why people don't want to risk being that person getting side effects. There is no help to be had if you are that person.
