LinkOpensChest_wav , in Bitwarden's update to fix logout issues has been approved
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Where on this page can I read about this fix? This link just takes me to the add-on's general install page.

RvTV95XBeo ,

On that page, you can choose "version history" to get their list of changes, unfortunately for this one all they put was "bug fixes"...

Good news though, this is an open source project, so easy enough to just go to the source...

Github issue: https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/issues/8873

And here's all of the commits that have gone into it since 2024.5.1: https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/compare/web-v2024.5.1...desktop-v2024.6.2

Thank you so much. I have a hard time navigating that page. I kept finding the Bitwarden site instead of their github.

This actually explains some problems I've been having, and I'm thankful there's a fix. I actually disabled 2fa for a while because I was sick of having to retrieve a code each time I was forced to log back in.

GenderNeutralBro , in How can I quickly "unclog" firefox when it runs out of memory (with 1000/2000 tabs)

I came in here knowing exactly what the comments would look like, and I'm still disappointed. "Just don't use so many tabs" is not an answer. If you don't have anything constructive to say, just move on instead of getting uppity about...not using browsers very heavily or understanding other use cases.

Yeah, thousands of tabs seems extreme. But "you should dedicate a larger amount of time and effort all day, every day to make the computer's job easier" is a bad take. That's obviously worse than OP's existing workflow.

Sorry OP, I don't have a real answer either. You might find Arc Browser's tab system to suit you better, but since it's chromium-based I suspect performance might be worse.

Edit: out of curiosity, how much memory does your PC have, and how much is Firefox using during these freezes? I wonder how much of the delay is caused by swapping.

hanrahan ,
@hanrahan@slrpnk.net avatar

Just don't use so many tabs" is not an answer.

Yes it is. If somone is holding a knife upside down and complaining it doesn't cut their steak, are you rude and ignore them? or comment that they're doing it wrong? OP has the knife upside down.

FF (or any browser AFAIK) is not designed to do this , OP is doing it wrong is a valid answer.

On the flip side OP wants FF to change so it can do what they want, which is also valid. After all, a sensible person adapts to the environment around them, an insane person expects the environment to adapt to them, therefore all progess is made by insane people. Have at it OP :)

sugar_in_your_tea , in Mozilla restores Firefox add-ons banned in Russia

Eh, I'm not so sure it's "well done." They should comply with local laws and perhaps respond by making it easy to add your own addon repo or sideload addons.

Getting banned just reduces your impact.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

By doing this they are setting a strong presence. You either can have full Firefox or no Firefox. It isn't right to censor for specific countries.

It is the same thing with EU chat control and Signal.

sugar_in_your_tea ,

Idk, I think an addon store is different. Some regions could restrict certain types of addons (e.g. porn, gambling, crypto, language support, etc), and that should be fine. They shouldn't compromise on core Firefox features, but I think region-gating extensions is fine, provided they have a way to side-load extensions.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

We aren't talking about gambling here we are talking about massive censorship and attacks on human rights.

sugar_in_your_tea ,

It's the same general idea. Blocking gambling add-ons is just another form of censorship. As long as countries aren't dictating core browser features, I don't see why Mozilla shouldn't comply with blocking access to certain third-party add-ons in their add-on store, but they should allow users to select third-party add-on repos if they so choose (afaik, that's not a thing yet).

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Gambling has nothing to do with Democratic speech and access to information. We are talking about add ons that might show people the truth. Russia and Putin fear that greatly.

Dirk , in Firefox development is moving from Mercurial to Git
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

Sad to see they only use MS GitHub instead of selfhosting something like GitLab. Just another vendor lock-in.

shnizmuffin ,
@shnizmuffin@lemmy.inbutts.lol avatar

We will continue to use Bugzilla, moz-phab, Phabricator, and Lando.

Although we'll be hosting the repository on GitHub, our contribution workflow will remain unchanged and we will not be accepting Pull Requests at this time.

The cool thing about distributed version control is that it's distributed. It sounds like GitHub will just be a public remote, rather than the place where active development happens.

1984 , in Whoa! I just noticed in #firefox Nightly that if I right-click on some text, I can choose to translate the selection. Neat!
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It's also local to your device and doesn't get sent anywhere as I understand it. Firefox is such a boss.

Yerbouti , in The Bitwarden addon has a bug that frequently logs you out

Weird, not happening on any of my machines , mac and Linux.

notnotmike , in The Bitwarden addon has a bug that frequently logs you out

I noticed this and the fact that Ctrl + Shift + L no longer autofills. That was my favorite feature but for some reason it has stopped working

flux ,

That was a Firefox bug, based on one comment in the Bitwarden isue tracker . It should be fixed now in Firefox 116.

1984 , in Firefox stops loading pages seemingly at random, shows NS_BINDING_ABORTED, have to restart
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Dns issues. Had similar with pihole before I configured it correctly.

scrubbles , in How to combat creeping firefox enshitification?
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

I would argue this isn't enshittification. They aren't adding ads, they aren't plugging something you have to pay for (at least that I've seen, maybe their VPN service). To me, these are things most common users (read, not us) expect their browser to do now.

So it's a catch 22. Use hyper tech people would like it to remain a techie based browser. But we've seen that that doesn't do well for a company, and it'll become less relevant allowing Chrome to domineer even more. So, the alternative is they try to add features that will attract more people, and then they piss off the techie base. This cycle has been happening since the 90s

That's why it would be nice if there was just a "go away and stop showing helpful tips" button when you first start up a fresh browser install.

1984 , in Here’s what we’re working on in Firefox
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I hate the corpo talk as usual but hope they can squeeze out a really good tab manager. Container tabs and proper adblock is the best thing Firefox has, and would be nice with a third Ace in their hand.

087008001234 , in Here’s what we’re working on in Firefox

Productivity boosters like
Tab Grouping, Vertical Tabs, and our handy Sidebar will help you stay organized no matter how many tabs you have open -- whether it’s 7 or 7,500.
Plus, our new Profile Management system will help keep your school, work, and personal browsing separate but easily accessible.
Customizable new tab wallpapers that will let you choose from a diverse range of photography, colors, and abstract images that suits you most.
Intuitive privacy settings that deliver all the power of our world-class anti-tracking technologies in a simplified, easy-to-understand way.
More streamlined menus that reduce visual clutter and prioritize top user actions so you can get to the important things quicker.

...

We’re looking at how we can use local, on-device AI models -- i.e., more private -- to enhance your browsing experience further. One feature we’re starting with next quarter is AI-generated alt-text for images inserted into PDFs, which makes it more accessible to visually impaired users and people with learning disabilities. The alt text is then processed on your device and saved locally instead of cloud services, ensuring that enhancements like these are done with your privacy in mind.

Carighan , in Apple limits third-party browser engine work to EU devices
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Just one more reason to make laws that enforce similarly fair competition in other countries. Don't let companies get away with this shit!

kratoz29 ,

Can they do that? I'd love it, but I don't think they can really force Apple, or any company to do something globally can they? (USB C was probably managed this way because of logistic and pricing matters).

FrostKing ,

I could be wrong, but I believe he meant that other countries themselves should pass similar laws; not that the EU should make laws mandating what Apple does in other countries

Pyrarrows , in Is there a way to disable the "Restart to Keep Using Firefox" page?

When this happens, Firefox has been updated in the background & the non-updated parts that're loaded into memory attempted to load one of the updated parts & found that they were no longer compatible, causing this message to appear.

At this point you HAVE to restart Firefox in order to be able to use it, no way around it. Soooo very fun on Mac & Linux since both can update in the background. It's also possible to have this happen on Windows, but it's far more rare as it seems to require having multiple different instances running at once.

LinkOpensChest_wav , in Updating permissions on Firefox for Android
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I was confused by this same thing. Afaik clicking accept within the notification did the trick because it's working, and when I clicked into the add-ons manager and checked permissions for Bitwarden, I didn't see anything amiss.

dustyData , in Firefox 126 Available - Adds "Linux" To The Android User Agent String

Love the passive-aggressiveness and completely agree with it. Android and ChromeOS are Linux. They should report as such. Let's see those stats change.
