Okay so I actually crushed an apple before I posted this which is what inspired the post. I just wanted to inspire casual conversation, ridiculous goal setting, and joking around.
I was inspired by an American pro wrestler in the Midwest or Mid-South(?), I remember seeing him on TV when I was a kid in the late '70s and early '80s. His big gimmick to show his toughness was to crush an apple.
I crushed an Ambrosia apple that was slightly overripe. I do not believe, based on my strength in that endeavor, that I would be able to crush a ripe apple.
I'm on a similar journey. I want to crush walnuts. I'm a desk worker, so I got a set of grip strength trainers and just use them when I'm in Zoom meetings. I can almost close a 200lb gripper after about 8 months of sustained effort. I've started using a light gripper to increase my thumb and pointer finger pinching strength now too. I'm going to have to see if I can squash an apple now.
But I also feel like there need to be a few fruits between the two. Avocados are pretty soft, their skin easily tears. Apples are crispy, the pressure needed to crush an apple in one hand is at least 10x greater than to crush an avocado.
I've been rooting for Cody Rhodes to win Wrestlemania on Sunday, and he did. Plus with a (very brief) appearance by The Undertaker, my favorite wrestler.
I was in the path of totality for the eclipse yesterday, so I go to see it. It was pretty freakin cool.
Today is nice, dark, and rainy, my favorite kind of weather.
Between those three, I'm in an excellent mood.
I agree with migrating the !casualconversation community to lemm.ee
It concerns me the volume of communities and even users on LW, so I'm totally on board with us spreading some of the load by the way of migrating to another instance.
Minuses: Pulled a muscle in my thigh :/ it's been super sore all day. Have had zero appetite all day, so I hope I don't wake up ravenous in the middle of the night.
Pluses: Had fun with the eclipse. Chatted with an elderly man who joked about not being around to see the next one... I enjoy talking to older people. I miss my grandpa 😔
Welp, given that my radiation oncologist (I am in remission) found that I had stage 3 hypertension, I've had better. A trip to the ER told us that I am not in immediate danger, so it could also be worse.
Lol, nope! Since my blood work and EKG showed no organ damage, I am just under orders to call my PCP in the morning - which I did. I'll get a cuff late today to track as well. I'm already on BP meds, have been stable for many years, and my BO was even good when I was in cancer treatment and couldn't take my meds. This is a wait, watch, and control with normal meds scenario right now. I'm take it given the alternatives.
All things considered, not too bad I suppose. I'd say it's a "neutral", there hasn't really been anything good, nor has there been anything bad - I'm just "existing" if that makes any sense at all lol.
So far so good! I didn’t think I’d get to see the eclipse at work today but one of my peers swung by my desk with some viewing glasses and said “go check it out!” I don’t dig going into the office but at least I get to work with good people.
Just block him? I'm not a big fan of reading a medical issue blog either, so I just blocked him and everything is fine. No offense intended to Mr Squid either, medical issues are just stressful to read about all the time.
What are you expecting everyone else to do about this? I mean, we’re all strangers on the internet and you don’t even know if they’re being honest or not. There’s no real relationship here.
