So one day we could teach them the entire bee movie script

AbouBenAdhem , in Chickadees Have Unique Neural Barcodes for Episodic Memories, Researchers Say

The authors liken the newly discovered hippocampal barcodes to computer hash codes, which are patterns assigned as unique identifiers to different events.

Could the birds be using something analogous to a spatial Bloom filter?

bblkargonaut , in Scientists Create Largest and Most Detailed Bird Family Tree to Date | Sci.News

I don't think the general public appreciates how fing weird bird genomics are, and how this was basically impossible without machine learning.

An inordinate fondness

pacmondo , in New beetle species with white mohawk resembling bird faeces discovered

Man, some scientist says the first thing that pops into his head and you're forever known as the bird shit beetle

VelvetStorm ,

If anything he's the fungi beetle guy imo. There are lots of inverts that look like bird shit but this may be the only one that looks like an infected bug.

"These bugs are also known to bite unsuspecting humans between the toes, hence why they're called "toe-biters," though this bite is nontoxic and we're far too big to be their prey."

That doesn't mean they can't try :-(

Fixbeat , in Giant 'toe biter' water bugs discovered in Cyprus for the 1st time

Kill it with fire? …wait

Cruxifux , in Giant 'toe biter' water bugs discovered in Cyprus for the 1st time

We have those here. They’re big ugly motherfuckers and it hurts like hell when they bite you. But they’re big and slow so you gotta really not be paying attention to get bit by one.

fixerdude2 ,

Big, ugly and huge…4.7”!

Cruxifux ,

Yeah there kind of rare where I live too. They used to come to the gas station I worked at as a kid at night. People would come in for gas and see them and freak out because they’d be like “I DIDNT KNOW WE HAD BUGS THAT BIG HERE”
