My dad will help literally anyone who asks him directly or is even just the friend of a person he knows. He’ll just hand them things he owns or set aside time or just give them free whatever. When he was a manager of a team for a time he was super progressive about it telling his team to take care of themselves while still overworking himself so it’s not like he’s a default “fuck corporate” guy or anything.
Ask him to pay taxes, though, and he suddenly goes full conservative. Tell him it’s hard for servers and he’ll say they should get a better job. Mention arts degrees and he’ll say that’s why education shouldn’t be free. It’s the weirdest fuckin’ thing.
This is a repost. Also, like, do we need to keep spamming Beehaw's tech section with headlines that reference rape as like, a casual way to say that a company did something dishonest? Cause I'm not really into it.
Like, seriously, is there a creepier version of this headline?
I would be careful trusting everything said in this video and taking it at face value.
He touches on a broad range of different AI related news, but doesn't seem to fully grasp the technology himself (I'm basing this statement on his "evidence" from the 8 min mark).
He seems to be running a channel that's heavily centered on stock market related content. And it feels like he's putting his own spin on every topic he touches in this video.
Overall, it's not the worst video, but I would rather base my information from better informed sources.
What he should have done was to set the baseline by defining what AI actually is and then proceed to compare what these companies are doing with that definition. Instead we have a list of AI news stories covering Amazon Fresh Stores, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot (powered by ChatGPT) and his own take on how those stories mean that everything is faked.
"one fraudulent company from India". Which part of this being Amazon's walk out technology makes it not big tech, or a "weak ai story"?
AI is turning out to be a lot less promising than we thought, unless new breakthroughs are made the models are plateauing or even getting worse, at least relative to the amount of energy they consume.. And companies like openai are in rush to sell you the idea for trillions of dollars before everyone realises the limits. Same as amazon trying to sell us Ai powered shopping.
Nicotine is a drug. Like a lot of them, it has a range of effects. Some of them are pretty nice. You can't separate them from the giant mountain of bag effects, but still. Pretending that the only reason people ever smoked was addiction is dumb. It's why they kept smoking, but that's a whole nuther thing.
Man, a a good smoke when stressed helped. It didn't make the stress go away, but it it sure as hell sharpened focus and muted the sense of futility when a problem was overwhelming. I sure as hell won't ever smoke again, but I miss the hell out of that.
I feel I can say with certainty that it helps me heavily with focus and energy. I've most primarily had issues quitting because of that. I have rather severe depression that I've not been willing to go to SSRI's to treat due to my interest in the arts. I possibly have ADD. I definitely have oral fixation (teehee). There's alot of neurochemical/psychological factors that can increase dependence on this drug just as any drug. It really is easier for some to quit than it is for others. If I had quit, I wouldn't have watched this video. I wouldn't be able to. You're tough! I hope you stay off it, yo. Nicotine's... pretty awful, as a drug. I don't personally see it as the worst, but it's definitely not great.
This does indeed sound quite promising, especially if it can be combined with an end of pipe carbon capture technology in the same heavy industries while gradually replacing the fossile fuel use there.
Those thermal PV cells for electricity recuperation are also cool, and 40% efficiency is not bad at all compared to pumped hydropower storage for example.
I really like her project, focus, and presentation. I appreciate that video makers need to have some kind of income.
Whenever BetterHelp is used to sponsor a video, I think this video (YT) should also appear.
I'm not calling for censorship of videos that use it as a sponsor, just spreading awareness of that vendor's reputation and history. I know that making content for YouTube is an extremely stressful job, and having a reliable source of income greatly reduces that anxiety. I hope Abby Cox continues to make great videos, I really appreciate her attention to detail and thoughtfulness and empathy for people who most of society has swept under the rug.
I wasn't aware BetterHelp was so awful, good to know. With my use of SponsorBlock, I generally don't see sponsored ad content in videos. I'll try to briefly check their sponsors before posting.
One comforting thing about the current crop of US leaders is that the inevitable death that comes for us all doesn't care how much they weasel and maneuver.
I'm constantly amazed that few of them seem to care what legacy they're building.
When I'm gone, a bunch of people will remember me, and genuinely miss me. I figure it'll be a solid half dozen, for sure. Probably dozens, even.
Yes, I've invested in people's lives and welfares a great deal.
But I've also just managed to not present myself as incredibly racist or everybody-interesting-phobic.
I think both of those life choices factor into how I'll be remembered.
I cannot fathom making this much of an ass of myself, perhaps because my mother raised me correctly.
And I'm not setting some high bar here. I make an ass of myself plenty. Just not this much.
Edit: I should clarify, my disgust is with starting this kind of crap while supposedly being a world leader. Shutting someone up who started this kind of crap, I'm all for.
It's crazy how many pipelines there are. Tankie, Nazi, Conspiracy, Russian disinfo, and now this. So many entities vying for vulnerable minds through any vector they can.
