z00s , to For sharing fascinating artifacts and replicas in Hoard of Roman gold coins, Britain, 2nd century AD

Every time something like this is discovered I imagine an ancient person walking around with a spade going "Fuck... FUCK!"

z00s , to Ask Lemmy in What is the best movie to watch without sound?

Any of the original Indiana Jones films.

They were storyboarded almost like a comic book. I once heard a University professor online talking about how you can watch any of the three original movies in black and white with no sound and still have a perfect understanding of the story; that's how strong they are . If you ever want an entertaining evening, invite some friends over and do just that.

z00s OP , to Ask Lemmy in What's your "back pocket" wish?

Sure bud

z00s OP , to Ask Lemmy in What's your "back pocket" wish?

How has that got anything to do with religion?

z00s OP , to Ask Lemmy in What's your "back pocket" wish?

That's not a monkey's paw, that's just... sad.

z00s , to Ask Science in Do we know how long it took for cuneiform to develop from counting cows and barley, to drafting official documents and contracts, to creating literature?

2500 years later...

Archaeologist excitedly unearths cuneiform tablet

Hmmmm... "Ea-nasr... is... a cunt?!"

Quietly reburies tablet while looking around furtively

z00s , to Ask Lemmy in If your mind got transported back 10 years right now with no time to prepare, how could you exploit your knowledge for personal gain?

I would help myself become more confident, less anxious and a better person.

I know that sounds lame but that alone would be worth more than any stock tips to me.

Sending my mind back to the past is the wish I keep in my back pocket to blurt out if I see a falling star or meet a geanie.

z00s , to Lefty Memes in Capitalists: capitalism is the only system that lets you chase your dreams…

It's really just a call to change by not playing by their rules, eg get a degree and then move to a jurisdiction where the loan people can't get to you, or get a degree from another country where it's less expensive.

I'm not really advocating for riots or anything.

z00s , to Lefty Memes in Capitalists: capitalism is the only system that lets you chase your dreams…

Neo cons unironically love all of those degrees, at least in the US. Don't forget that student loans are a big business.

Non-occupational degrees give a steady supply of young workers with massive debt and qualifications that won't enable them to get a job with a high enough wage to pay back the principle of that debt.

This is how the gig economy flourishes.

This is how Amazon stays in business.

This is how the hospitality industry thrives on a deliberately broken business model.

This is how landlords profit.

This is how the post-boomer generations are oppressed.

We are cannon fodder.

Rise up.

Become ungovernable.

Great humanist values there, pal 👍

z00s , to Asklemmy in GPL + butt hole?

Well that depends on the laws where you live but if you actually want the contract to be enforceable then yes, it needs to follow certain rules, and no, you can't just "write any bullcrap".

z00s , to Anti-Corporate Movement in Amazon-Powered AI Cameras Used to Detect Emotions of Unwitting UK Train Passengers | WIRED

I've spent time on the underground and I don't need AI to tell you it's 50% drunk, 50% depressed

z00s , to Asklemmy in GPL + butt hole?

They can't just contain "any bullcrap you want".

Contracts need to follow the set of rules in your country that dictate what can and can't be enforced. It's an entire branch of law.

If you try and pull something like OP is suggesting, the worst case scenario is that it may render the contract an unlawful document and therefore void.

I imagine in most places things like what OP is suggesting would get laughed out of court.

You can have some fun though. I heard of one guy who, as a recruitment bonus, insisted that it be included in his contract that he receive an office desk made entirely of Lego.

z00s , to Asklemmy in If you were offered knowledge of exactly when and how you'll die, would you take it? Why or why not?

I'm already dying of lymphoma but I'd like to know exactly when. The constant up and down of good days and bad days takes an emotional toll. If I knew I could relax completely and actually plan to do things.
