What do they say? Because I am a lifelong antifascist and communist and we love Jewish people but shun Zionism, maybe you have conflated the two.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Could YOU care to explain? Do you have some issue with antifascism?

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

People against Nazis are worse than Nazis, is literally what you are saying.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Okay let me be more accurate, sorry. You said you dislike people that call themselves antifascist more than people who murder Jewish people and queers.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You know you can go reread your comment if you are confused.

Republicans only rank so high for gun ownership because of the dozens of people that have an armories worth. Left -wing and marginalized people will have one or two guns that are effective, not a stockpile of tacticool attachments and WW2 rifles.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

People do on occasion, like there were armed leftists that prevented police from raiding encampments in Texas, and at some protests there have been organized armed groups like John Brown Gun Clubs or Socialist Rifle Associations. Several people that argued for more militant resistance to state violence were murdered in 2020, and many times for decades before that, so a lot of people are scared and not organized sufficiently, but there are groups that have been preparing.

This is an A-Lister commie board, we have Ryan Gosling too!

Edit: whoops I thought this was a hexbear post but my point stands, less commie though

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not in every state, just majority Republican like Texas, but there are people pushing for it federally.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Which is why hex voted against defederation ahah, hex and dbzer0 users are largely allies from what I've seen so it's kind of funny the admin is banned.

tocopherol , (edited )
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Funny, in this 'drama' hex voted against defederation and voiced support for dbzer0 users. The bans from hex admins seemed reasonable if you look at the event history.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I swear 90% of the people deriding hexbear were offended by one post and never went back or saw a post that was entirely full of sarcastic comments and thought it was unironic. I'm not even ML, I call myself an anarchist and argue about all kinds of shit on hexbear and I have found it to be a very caring community, and actually doesn't tolerate transphobia or imperialist apologia unlike most online spaces.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What hate comments are you talking about? I legit don't know what you are talking about and I post there almost exclusively. You say 'not us' but what is this post full of attempted shame on hexbear then? Have you seen the hex thread about defederating? The hex users share kindness for dbzer0 users, the reasons for the banning seemed pretty reasonable and consistent with their policies, and they voted against defederating. From my perspective this whole situation seems a bit immature.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I don't know all the details of the drama but I'm sorry you haven't had better interactions with hexbear. Some users can be problematic like any place, but I have been inspired by the effort, genuine good faith debate and historical analysis that is common in hexbear discussions. I'm anarchist, I first came to the fediverse through this instance and haven't had any issue with hexbear, and personally would defed from .world before hexbear lol.

Can you clarify how hexbear facilities harassment? I'm not saying you're wrong but I just don't know what you mean. They have the_dunk_tank which you could argue does but they changed the rules to discourage dunking on anyone that isn't a prominent voice, if there is harassment from users I haven't seen the mods do anything to encourage it.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I wasn't saying you were immature, I said the whole situation was. The impetus for the whole thing, deleting of the post, also seemed to make no sense to me at all. But to elevate the situation after that was what I meant was immature really. And from there it just seemed like a schoolyard fight or something, all of it just being a waste of time distracting and taking energy away from everyone involved.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Have you read the comments? Plenty of people think this is silly evidently, it's not brigading when a lot of dbz users are hexbear users also

Upvoted comment here:

I don’t care for the drama on Hexbear. And I don’t care for it here either. This post is drama baiting.

That's a reasonable sentiment to me

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Well yes I think all of us should be the better person, obviously easier said than done! I'm not a fan of ridicule or bullying of course (except against actual nazis maybe) and I feel bad if you or anyone has been hurt by harassment. I am mostly just trying to say this sort of infighting is all just taken too seriously, and arguing about 'tankies', which can mean any number of things to different people, doesn't seem helpful to anyone in my view.

For what it's worth, like another comment said I do really appreciate the work you and others have done to make this instance possible! I don't have any resentment for anyone in this situation and I hope hexers and us here can all come together better in the future, we have more alike than in difference.

tocopherol ,

I see that more and more in the US, people saying things like "what can we do to help them, most homeless people want to live that way" like wtf?

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It's funny how people that casually see hexbear always say this but there is critique about things China does there all the time, most posts are jokes so outsiders might misinterpret it. Hexbear doesn't really stan anything as a unit except the end of Western imperialism.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There is no singular definition of tankie, it's used to mean authoritative leftist but it's meaning is different to different people, it only really serves to limit discourse.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There should be some kind of punishment for knowingly arresting people you can't charge with a crime. This has happened at numerous protests for years, dozens of people arrested, released without a single charge.

Isn't false imprisonment or abduction a crime? The police use this as a disruption tactic, they don't care about the likelihood of actual charges.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

They are just missing the next panel, where both tracks lead to the annihilation of all Palestinians.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Vast majority of protesters arrested don't end up with any charges or a record, the police know this, but they still get their mugshot taken which gets posted online by right-wingers, doxxing them to potential political violence.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Those amendments are very selectively applied when it comes to any grassroots action that isn't fully right-wing. There is essentially no protection to speak against the state if they want to target you.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Last I was on Twitter a couple years ago there were antifascist pages that did that, the ones I followed were banned while the fascist 'antifa watch' pages I've seen are promoted. But I agree, Twitter won't work for it anymore but we should have some kind of fascist watchlist.

I've thought about the deck of cards of terror suspects the US had, with higher members of Al Qaeda or whatever, we should have that for the top fascist politicians and war mongers. It should be well known the names and faces of the people pushing us off the cliff.

There's a Star Trek ds9 episode where a non-human alien gets sent back in time to 1947. They discover on their sensors the radiation from the continual nuclear bomb tests and are horrified that the humans would irradiate their own planet. I just recently became a 'trekkie' and I get it, it really has some of the best themes and plots in sci-fi

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That's the one, I personally dislike even the smallest of spoiler so I was being vague haha. I enjoyed it though, I never watched any Trek at all before this and I'm so hooked lol.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I haven't seen the original yet but the DS9 version of that episode was great, I was impressed they even used old style lenses and film to recreate the style of the 60s episode. It also made me realize "huh, William Shatner is kinda hot isn't he?" Ahah. I'll watch the original series eventually, I have a lot to catch up on lol.

The political establishment has been killing and robbing the people for centuries, it shouldn't be controversial to say we need to fight back more fiercely.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The first election I voted in was a vote for the 'lesser evil'. It's been that way since. Maybe we could try, idk, a non-evil candidate? The evil has somehow grown steadily every time we've elected a 'lesser evil'. Maybe there is something better we could do than legitimize evil. I'm not saying not vote, but clearly we need a rework of this whole thing.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Imagine if Boebert was the director of national security. This guy isn't just a troll, he is in one of the most powerful political positions in Israel. He has called for the extermination of Palestine and his views are not fringe within Israeli politics.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why do you mention personal property? Anarchism and communism still allow ownership of personal property, but collective ownership of the means of production such as factories and schools. You could do everything you do now in a socialist or anarchist society.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

How do you believe anyone is "born evil"? What does that mean? Would you support eugenics if this 'evil gene' could be identified?

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Data about greenhouse emissions from transportation is talked about more frequently than any other source in my experience. I don't see the relevance to this data as beef and tofu can be produced locally or shipped overseas, so the emissions to produce the product would be a separate discussion versus emissions in transit.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

No one here is saying you can't, are you trying to get permission? This is just pointing out it has a larger environmental impact than non-meat food sources.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why peacefully? Just today the IDF attacked a playground with an airstrike killing a group of children playing in broad daylight. It would be unbelievable if there wasn't clear footage of it and numerous similar attacks. US supplied weapons, funded by our taxes, cheered on by our political establishment. Stopping traffic isn't going nearly far enough.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It's irritating how often they use headlines like this when I wouldn't be surprised if he literally had a judge attacked physically

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You say it like it's the typical response though, essentially zero people believe nothing at all happened.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah idk what this person is on about, the vast majority of vegans are completely regular people that just want to reduce their environmental impact, you wouldn't even know they were vegan unless you asked.

How is BDS antisemitic? Maybe there is antisemitism associated with it's movement in Germany but that hasn't been my experience in the US. Though any pro-Palestine group here is constantly called antisemitic by Americans that support Israel.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You are incorrect about hexbear. I am an anarchist and post there almost exclusively, I have seen more vigorous debate there than any other left space. Hexbear actually allows proper arguments and doesn't even have downvotes.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I agree we need to be careful that we don't enable the sort of mass murder of Jews that has happened throughout history, being from Germany I'm sure you are especially careful to ensure something like the Holocaust doesn't happen again.

I don't agree that calling Israel a colony is antisemitic, it was formed as and still operates as a settler-colony. This conflict isn't black and white, but in war there is nearly always an aggressor against the other, the culpability is rarely even. Israel, the aggressor, with support from untouchably powerful militaries, and the victim, Palestine, whose homeland was forcibly taken by said militaries.

I don't see the de-legitimization of the state of Israel as antisemitic because the state is not legitimate by any recognized standard, and continues seizing territory in opposition to international treaties, annexing Palestinian land even in the last few weeks. I'm sure antisemitic people could use the BDS movement to mask their true views but I haven't seen that connection in the US. There are plenty of Jewish people in the US who call for boycotting Israel and giving Palestine full self-determination.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

From the former perspective, this already is a antisemitic argument because it delegitimizes the existence of a safe space for Jews.

I thought more about this idea, and I agree that Jewish people are historically extremely persecuted such that they probably should have an independent nation as a safe space. But why does it have to be at the cost of so many lives and peoples homes? Massacre and displacement of Arab people is not a good way to create a safe haven for Jewish people, and having it continue for decades certainly increases antisemitism, in turn making Jewish people less safe.

tocopherol ,
@tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That's unfortunate to hear, I don't know the context of your experience so I can't make any assumption, but it is just funny to me how much I see comments like that about hexbear, when I have found it to be very welcoming to diverse views (aside from pro-liberalism or fascism), and plenty of other anarchists on there agree. I wouldn't have been drawn towards it if it weren't for so many people saying they were 'MAGA tankies' etc.
