"Aren't there many unhappy couples, if cross species reproduction isn't very common?"

This question was posed tonight in my session. While I'm open to the concept in my homebrew, looking at for example base where we got Half-Orcs, Half-Elves and Half...-lings(?), I found the question very interesting and wanted to ask the wider community.

How do you fine folk handle to topic?

Procreation and biological children are generally not seen as inherently superior to adoptive children. As long as inheritances are solved most of the time it doesn't matter that much. Unless you have titles (or other stuff) passed down "by blood". So there is no shame in adopting, no accusation of being "lesser" parents.

Let the loving parents, no matter the biology, adopt and have that happy core family.

Or do magic.

1/27/24 Many worlds have magical/exceptional minerals and metals. Mithril , tilkal and galvorn from Tolkien, adamantine (and adamantium) from Greek myth, DnD, and Marvel, etc. What such materials exist in your world? Who uses them? What do they do?

@Jackgiantkiller A thing I've stolen wholecloth from - Bronze. Copper is mined from the bodies of the Gods who fell during the God War. Tin is from where the stars of the sky rested on the earth before Umath wrested the sky away from the earth, separating his parents, and creating his domain of air. But having tin and copper is not enough, there are secret rites from the God Age to get them to alloy. Bronze is the only metal that can be permanently enchanted. All other metals are dead

I haven't had a lot of time to read this week, but I have been reading a few pages of The Caverns of Thracia each night in memory of Jennell Jaquays. What are you reading?

@Tim_Eagon

Starting a Drakar och Demoner (dragonbane) game in twelve hours so that. And as always flipping through my gloranthan tomes seeking inspiration.

And I should get back to reading Conan.

#Worldbuilding prompt 1/13/24
Does your fantasy setting include firearms? Why not? Given that the tech used to make full plate and rapiers came after we'd been using guns for a while, what happened to keep folks from using gunpowder in your world? If you want to be more in line with history, you need to explain the lack of firearms more than their presence.

@Jackgiantkiller If firearms serve the setting then they are in regardless of its historical inspirations. Alchemy plus tube plus ball equal cannon. However having firearms that are fun for the players to use is another question. For me that would be match- or flintlocks at the earliest. And now we need precision manufacturing, the ability to drill barrels etc. Technologies that have larger impact than just guns and from a worldbuilding perspective perhaps more fun.

@Jackgiantkiller To add to this the weapons adventurers would equip themselves with wouldn't be run of the mill arms. Rather it would be custom hand-crafted pieces like this breechloading wheellock with cartridges from 1625

Know what? No.
Let's actually use D&D synonymously with .
Like "Coke" used to be in parts of the American South.

"What kinda D&D you playing tonight, Sally?"
'We're getting together with Sajid and his sister to play Paranoia.'

Let's dilute all the corpo trademarks. 😉

@thoughtpunks Like Nintendo being used for every console. And thermos for every insulated liquid container.
