    You may be mostly familiar with dragons as huge, flying reptiles.

    But in German folklore, dragon can also be shapechanging trickster spirits!

    DEATHWING (2010)

    The general concept for this work was spelled out to me by my art director and contact at Blizzard, Jeremy Cranford. 1/6

    A black dragon with flame smoldering in its mouth and lines of magma burning between its scales spreads mighty wings as it emerges from the ocean. Water spirals and froths, rising at opposite edges of the panel with the massive displacement of the dragon rising. The rib supports of its wings are thick and spiked, but the flesh between is tattered and showing through at the edge of its wings. A cloud of orange billowing smoke rises behind. Lines of fiery debris launch in random directions. A spire of rock rises from the ocean as a tiny figure perches atop faces the massive beast.

    Glowtail in Velstove: (By teacher Beck in Nordsteimke.) At one time, the people of Velstove were poor, and only one single farmer was rich. Then the others said that Glowtail had brought him this wealth. Indeed, when young people had gathered one evening, they witnessed how the dragon rushed into the chimney of the rich neighbor. Two brothers wanted to investigate this matter. Just like they had heard in old tales, they quickly pulled a wheel from the wagon, and put it back on the wrong way.     DRAGON LAKE (1988)

    "Some come easy, some come hard," said Norman Rockwell, when someone asked him how long it took for him to complete a painting. Like him, I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. 1/4

    On the shore of a lake, a red-headed woman in Romani-style garb approaches a dragon twice her height. Orange scaled, its sinuous neck curves as it lifts a beak shaped head. Gripping rock with hind legs and forelimb, its tail swishes water as wings flair back warily. A flame pattern ripples along the underside of the limb supporting its wing. More gold scales run under its chin down its belly and along the underside of its tail. The woman wears a purple silk cloth over her hair with pink cloak trailing. The sleeves of her azure blouse puff out until they meet form fitting leather gloves at the elbow. Her belt broadens in the back, accented with chains and jewels. Her silky pants are also baggy until they tuck into her fine leather boots at the calf. In the distance, other dragons can be seen bathing in the shallows. Lush evergreens give way to grassy hills and eventually angular mountains that thrust upward aglow in the sunlight.

    Young dragon lovers will love this extraordinary tale about courage, determination and the power to stay true to ourselves despite the circumstances.
    Strong is an inspiring story with beautiful illustrations. I loved the sweet atmosphere and the strong will of the main character. It is a great read to remind young ones how special they are.

    When the faerie king decided to retire and move to Cuernavaca, the poor little who guarded his castle lost its job. While the office doesn’t usually handle this sort of cases, we were happy to introduce him to a local café owner who was very glad to offer him a new career.
