@Nonilex So, what are police telling us here? That they won't always stand aside and watch?

The French baguette is burning.

After a shocking defeat in the EP elections, French president Macron calls for a snap national election on June 30.

His party, Renaissance, got just 15.2 percent, while the far-right nationalist populists of Marine Le Pen's National Rally party got 31.5.

I see this as a highly dangerous moment for European security. Marine Le Pen is the exact opposite of Macron — she parrots Putin's talking points, and did not want to send weapons to Ukraine in the beginning.

@randahl Its amazing that he announced France is allowing their weapons to be used (by Ukraine) to attack Russia directly... just a few days before the election. IDK what kind of strategy that was.

The Appeal to Heaven flag isn't just tied to Jan 6.

It's a Christian nationalist symbol.

Christian nationalists believe that the law of the land is not the Constitution, but instead the law of God as they interpret it.

Do you see the problem with Alito flying this flag?

A Student's Guide to Right, Left and Truth by Alan E. Singer, 2020

This book is an augmented adaptation of the author's 2018 book Understanding Left and Right (Nova). It further reinforces the message that sustained truth-seeking leads people toward the political center. Each chapter offers divide-bridging discussions of issues such as regulation, taxation, corporate-strategy and personal identity, along with the very ideas of knowledge, truth and goodness.

"A group of mostly Western countries pledged to triple generation by 2050.

But lenders balked at the eyewatering cost of doing so.

“We need state involvement, I don’t see any other model,” Ostros said. “Probably we need quite heavy state involvement to make projects bankable.” "

So, taxpayers are nuclear plant builders of last resort now?
The delays and cost over-runs have been legendary.

tasket ,
@tasket@mas.to avatar

@CelloMomOnCars There are three Big Lies from the nuclear industry:

  1. Atoms For Peace

  2. Nuclear will become cheap

  3. Nuclear plants don't require energy storage.

No. 3 is always assumed and rarely examined. The fact is that nuclear can't follow load – much like renewables can't (the French claim otherwise, but their history says it leads to broken reactors). So if you must build energy storage, do you pay for it in addition to pricey nuclear... or with far cheaper renewables?

Over 1,300,000 civilians and military died in the Vietnam War. Politically it was the 60,000+ young, Americans who died that forced a shift in the way the US conducted warmaking.

The US public wouldn't tolerate such death tolls, at least not from drafts. The deaths of foreign civilians didn't make a similar impression. (But should have.)

The protests and anger over the draft and Vietnam War might have seemed futile at the time. But, it did force a change. Those protests mattered.

@futurebird One of the main reasons we are here on a precipice is that a generation that was lionized (endlessly) for resisting the Vietnam War could only recognize Iraq War resisters for a very brief period. Right? We were all supposed to back off and let the Tea Party conservatives regroup – which they did with the help of Russia, the NRA and KKK.

The vaunted "culture" that gave us twin disasters in the 2000s will not be taking any heat the way midcentury establishment did.

It's a little thing but... if you don't listen to the words he is saying Trump sounds like a children's television host. He has this sort of babying soothing fake-hearty quality. Anyone else notice this?
