"The NYTimes polls consistently overweight Trump's prospects…. The Times treats its own polls as front-page news, but when polls showing more favorable results for Biden are reported by other outlets in the ensuing weeks, they are ignored by the Times."

@wdlindsy fear sells best.

@wdlindsy it is still 6 months until the election anyhow.

They probably want the full drama until then (and longer...).

“Johnson received a key intelligence briefing from [CIA Director], who painted a picture of the dire situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and the global consequences of inaction, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The briefing left a lasting impression, and Johnson became increasingly convinced the fate of Western democracy was on his shoulders, sources close to him said.”

@randahl @anderspuck @DeeGLloyd and he probably needed the delay in order to build up his own power structure and alliances.

He has constantly worked his way up and out of the dependency on the "freedom caucus".

Something McCarthy wasn't able to do.

Johnson is no errand boy for Dozin Don.

Picture 1, Trump’s reality: Germany has a massive budget surplus, because the US is paying for the war in Ukraine.

Picture 2, reality, Germany has a massive budget deficit of 17 billion euros.

@randahl fyi the deficit has nothing to do with support for Ukraine though.

Robert Hubbell discusses how Biden and the Democrats can't win for losing when it comes to the New York Times:

"After Biden’s commanding, unprecedented win in South Carolina, the NYTimes Pitchbot proposed this headline:

'Biden’s closer-than-expected 95-point win in today’s South Carolina primary could hint at general election weakness.'"

@wdlindsy Trump is simply the better story.

Fear sells.

t_mkdf ,
@t_mkdf@ruhr.social avatar

@wdlindsy is it though?

From what I am seeing from over here most republican mega donors don't want (or expect) Trump to win and are reluctant with their donations.

They prefer Haley and otherwise seem content with another four years of predictable Joe.

"The leader of Germany’s far-right Alternative für Deutschland has said her party will campaign for a Brexit-style vote on EU membership if it comes to power, calling the UK’s departure from the bloc a model for its largest member.

Alice Weidel told the Financial Times in an exclusive interview that the UK decision would be 'dead right' for Germany…."

@wdlindsy she lives in Switzerland btw.

And her party is financed via swiss based far right billionaires.

Also her party does have ties to russia.

It is also ok to call her a Nazi Bitch. Satirically of course.

Not like her friend Hoecke. You can call him literally a fascist.

t_mkdf ,
@t_mkdf@ruhr.social avatar

@wdlindsy yeah. Fun fact: the Italian far right won't cooperate with the AfD because of different views on russia.

"More than 100,000 people turned out across Germany on Saturday in protest against the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, which sparked an outcry after it emerged that the party’s members discussed mass deportation plans at a meeting of extremists."

@wdlindsy in the end it was 200k to 300k protesting against the far right on Saturday.

And at least the same amount today: 50k in Cologne. And up to 250k in Munich (10x the expected number).

There seems to be a momentum. Quite a number of protest are already scheduled for the next weeks:

@wdlindsy there were all in all around 1,5 million people demonstrating this weekend (Friday to Sunday) in Germany.
