If I'm Judge Merchan, I'd cite Trump's naked attempts to intimidate the jury, witnesses, and the judge (as well as multiple violations of his gag order) as an excuse to throw the book at him.

I'd point out that all Trump had to do to get a slap on the wrist was keep his mouth shut, because it's my understanding that most people convicted of falsifying business documents don't get jail time; they usually just get fined, get some community service, maybe probation if it's bad. Most first-time defendants characterize this crime as an innocent mistake and behave accordingly, but Trump and his ego had to run his mouth.

My company doesn't pay out for unused PTO, so my boss will periodically (but more often towards the end of the year) tell us to use our vacation days if we still have some. He'll even call us and basically beg us to use them if we still have some in October.

I used to feel bad about calling out or taking PTO when I worked hospitality, because I knew that if I wasn't there, someone else had to fill in. Now I do warranty repairs for major PC manufacturers, so if I call out or take PTO, some clients might be annoyed, but I'm not inconveniencing any of my coworkers. It helps that my boss is awesome and encourages us to use it or call in if we don't feel well.

Like, this take is entirely fair. Incels are gonna incel, no matter what GW does, but this wasn't the way to change this.

GW has gradually been moving in this direction; IG regiments were originally all men, then they had gender-segregated regiments, then mixed regiments started becoming more and more common until they became the norm. And this is something I'm all for; a flashlight lasgun is gonna be equally effective in the hands of men or women.

But you shouldn't retcon established lore (even if it is problematic) with a tweet.

Why is it only a problem when they retcon female protagonists in to things rather than out?

Please don't put words in my mouth. The issue was with how suddenly they changed it and how they clarified it, not with the change itself.

Retcons suck. Going straight from "Women can't be made into Custodes" to "Oh, there have always been female Custodes, you just didn't see them in 30 years of lore, even though we explicitly said they couldn't exist!" is just lazy and jarring, no matter the subject matter. Clarifying it with a tweet instead of just letting it speak for itself just poured gasoline on it.

This is a good thing GW tried to do, they just handled it poorly.

I feel like a better option here would be limits on magazine capacities. Limiting internal and box magazine capacities to 5-10 rounds on semiautomatic firearms could have the same effect without it being an outright ban. Maybe have different capacities for handguns and rifles.

This is just more ammo (heh) for 2nd Amendment voters. Being a bit more clever about it could convince some of them to drop their resistance.

Republicans have a huge and extensive propaganda network that feeds their constituents a steady stream of misinformation, fear, hatred, intolerance, and ignorance. Fox News primes them, Republicans parrot Fox or whatever right-wing news outlet people get their news from, and get elected because most people don't have the media literacy to see that they're being lied to.

We can't reason with them, because they live in a world that has been carefully crafted to keep them compliant. The only way to fix this is to break the GOP's propaganda machine. Until we can do that, they are lost to us.

Once RIF Is Fun stopped working, my mobile browsing went exclusively to Lemmy. I still go back to Reddit for niche communities (especially for sports and specific games) on PC, but that's probably not going to last much longer. Once they kill old.reddit, I'll be gone for good.

I do wish there was a way to filter for language; I like occasionally finding titties while browsing, but I occasionally run into 5-6 consecutive articles in German or Dutch or something.

old.reddit is probably going to be on the chopping block, too. I only go for niche communities these days, but I'm gone for good once old.reddit is gone.

I don't even bother, because the people in my family who are farthest down the rabbit hole tend to be the ones who argue by talking over the other person.

I just write them off as a lost cause and pointedly leave the room when they go off the chain.
