This is the kind of thing I always imagined a husband would get when grocery shopping before I had one and, lo, it’s the sort of thing they really do come home with.

Just… just random cheese—

can I complain though? I think not!

@futurebird Well, there's a chance of american cheese in there, I'd stay clean 😉

The United States is protecting is uncompetitive automakers addicted to expensive SUVs and trucks from facing a real challenge that would force them to innovate and could accelerate the EV transition by making cheaper models much more accessible.

More than 5,000 nail technicians across the UK are coming together to collectively raise their prices from Monday in what is being labelled "National Nail Price Increase Day”.

It is not often that one hears of price fixing quite so clearly and in advance…

@dajb @neil "The Nail Tech Org, the company behind the movement, said it decided to make the change after calculating that its members were making about £7 per hour, which is below minimum wage."

Sounds like they're not independent, that shouldn't be price collusion then.

Which way of writing dollar amounts is more readable to you?

skolima ,
@skolima@hachyderm.io avatar

@randahl Ugh, why the currency before the number 😐

As a software developer, 175 USD (number, then unit).

As someone who's done UI work, omg, it depends, so many local standards. Do you know there are 7 different ways to format a price in euros depending on the country? (At least there were in 2013, now more countries have joined, the number might be higher)

Random SF-biology idea:

You know about carcinization, and how there's no such thing as trees, and how mammalian predators seem to evolve into mustelids all the time: but WHAT IF due to some inexplicable evolutionary reverse ferret, mustelidization turns out to be just an intermediate station on the road to platypusification?

The future is monotremes!

@cstross for people lost, like me, to the "no such thing as trees", here's the source I've found: https://eukaryotewritesblog.com/2021/05/02/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-tree/
