Doodling about aimlessly on the internet for a lark, adding very little of value to anyone as I go.

Would rather be out walking on a clifftop with my dog. Probably am.
From #Cornwall, near England.

Ten years ago today, we got married. To each other. We were both married before, but not to each other then. We weren't still married to someone else when we got married to each other. I hope that's all clear.

Wouldn't have bloody chosen June 6th if we'd realised how much of a fuss June 6th was every time the date since D-Day ended in a five or zero. And it's synchronised. We got married on the 70th anniversary, so it's going to be wall to wall D-Day tie in programs and features all over the media every time we have a five or zero in ours too.
Didn't do well with that one.
"Oh, celebrating a successful marriage are we? Great, here's loads of features about war and death."

Welcome to another week.

This week we set off on another #Interrail adventure - we're #OffToOstsee although today I'll be doing the rest of the packing - but Mrs Mike is a last minute sort of girl so will need some chivying along.
I need to organise a Tesco delivery for our return as well.

We leave tomorrow and for a change we're using the Hull - Rotterdam ferry (P&O - hiss!)

Have a good week everyone!

@MikeFromLFE I hope you have a smooth trip and enjoy your latest adventures.

Just got redirected to Reddit - not something I usually look at (but was reading a 'news' article about a giant slug that came from there), and one of the stories is 'where's all the banana yoghurt gone'.

Where has all the banana yoghurt gone? I haven't seen any in ages!

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@TheBreadmonkey I remember my mum slicing a banana, chucking it in a bowl and then dolloping chocolate coloured Angel Delight (careful not to say chocolate flavoured there, I'm not sure what the actual flavour of it was... just 'brown' and 'sugar' I think) on top for a healthy and nutritious desert for young children. I cannot remember banana yoghurt though.

There is sunshine, and I have homemade chocolate brownies and coffee. At this moment in time, life is not bad.

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@sheepnik @aegir Seconded. Or thirded. I start off my day by making coffee in the insulated cafetière Mrs S bought me. It can be half an hour or more before I pour one into my insulated mug, another half an hour before I start it, and a second cups worth is still hot in the cafetière when I get to it later. And no electric necessary like those keep warm filter machines (which only give a warmish second cup, not a hot one, in my experience).

Mind you, I often forget it's a whole new ball game with tea and leave many cups of that to go cold.

Good morning. It's a dull start again, but supposedly not as wet as yesterday turned out to be... so a better day for standing outside to give a speech than yesterday was, or in my case, doing some more garden tidying.

Engineer was not here long at all. Seems it's the same problem I had early last year - a network problem creating instability, so my speed has been cut down further and further by Openreach to make it more stable.

Hopefully she can get it sorted now. This is the third time since I moved here that there's been a fault on the line, I'm not impressed (that's Openreach's issue, of course, nothing to do with my provider).

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@RolloTreadway Glad that's on the way to being sorted (again). Amazing the effort they have put in to NOT sending a human out, but they sort it out in minutes when they give in and send one.

Only one election was important today, it was me electing not to do anything very much after three or four days of electing to do quite a lot.

Probably some get so many bullfinches on their feeders that it's not that exciting, but it is a rare privilege for us to see them here.

I get excited by seeing red kites here, like I did yesterday, but when we go up to the FIL's in mid-Wales, it is hard NOT to see them.

Morning everyone. I'm tired and it's so so grey outside.

Feels like there's been stupidly little sunshine these whole past twelve months. Really quite fed up of it; I'm not saying I want blazing heat (which will be coming anyway sooner or later) but a bit of sunshine does a lot of good for my mental wellbeing.

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@RolloTreadway My spurt of gardening activity yesterday was motivated by it being a lovely bright spring day, but I can see today is going to be harder to get going as it's a blank grey nothing overhead. There is the small matter of aching muscles all over too.

choosemypcc.org.uk is borked for me when searching it for the candidates to choose between for my area today.
Perhaps I shouldn't have left it until this morning to take any interest in the PCC thing at all.

scribblans OP ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

I read a bit about the role of a PCC, because I didn't know what they were for. Having discovered that they are meant to define the objectives of the police force in your area but are also politicians attached to political parties, I will not vote for any of them, because politicians should not get to influence what the police do - see 'US'.

Morning pawb. I'm still here, I'm still coughing, but I think I'm going to try doing a few hours of work today. It's so much easier to do this since working from home became an acceptable thing. I hated that time when ill when you're starting to feel better and able to do stuff, but doing stuff meant having to schlep into the office because lower grades like me couldn't be trusted to work anywhere but from a fixed desk in a fixed building.

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@RolloTreadway @sheepnik Yeah, what Rollo said, I've had many false dawns during my bout of whateveritwas.

Made a curry, and a very nice one - first time in a while because I haven't had the energy lately. Plus bonus, there was enough left not for a full meal but to go very nicely into a sandwich with chutney and raita.

Now to fall asleep on the sofa, and eventually to go out and mow the stupid lawn.

scribblans ,

@RolloTreadway It's so close to you might as well put the mowing job off until about late August now. ;)

I don't know why the eczema on my right hand (and weirdly only my right hand) has suddenly decided to be nasty, but can it please stop now? I have things that I need to use my hands for over the weekend.

(I imagine it's probably an allergy to something, anything, who knows, maybe I looked at it wrongly or a butterfly flew in the wrong direction on the other side of the world, could be anything)

scribblans ,
@scribblans@fedia.social avatar

@RolloTreadway I also have a patch that manifests randomly on my left hand, between my ring finger and middle finger. My enquiries as to "What the eff has set you off now?" have so far got no response.

Good evening (GMT, other timezones where it is not evening are available)
I have returned home, and now approaching somewhere near normal awareness, after my heart procedure . Pulse present (normal-ish and stabilised rhythm), runaway BP back to normal.
Phew, at last. Still under orders not to push it too soon though, so a few quiet days in store

    A man said, at 1830 in February in the UK...

    "...he has gone to Devil’s Point in Plymouth with two friends to try to watch the bomb being taken out to sea and detonated.

    Adam told BBC Radio Devon: “Since we came a couple of hours ago, it’s gone quite dark, so it is much, much harder to see.”

    Bloody sun going down so early and spoiling the view.

    Sssshh... I had my pre-op blood test on Friday, and after them having the sample to analyse since then, the hospital hasn't phoned to postpone the date again within 24 hours as they have done before, sooo... (whisper) it might actually be happening this time*

    Good morning. Decided to try the Talksport player for some cricket coverage. False name/details, burner DuckDuckGo temporary email address to sign in, opened in a Firefox container tab.... it might be relatively safe to use their radio player now.

    Using the internet shouldn't have to be like this if you don't want people to help themselves to whatever they want, but it is.

    I now have a third date for my previously twice postponed heart rhythm correction procedure (reboot).
    Still not looking forward to it, but am looking forward to not being afraid to to anything too taxing on my heart if it's successful, such as 'working', 'exercising', or 'normal life'.
    Still a couple of weeks left of saving myself for an hour or so of reasonably flat walks in the middle of the day (my beloved cliffs on the coast, or going off for a cycle around the country or moorland lanes, have been a no-no since last June) then napping for the afternoon.

    @RolloTreadway Oh good, well at least that's another item off the 'waiting to happen' list.

    We've been out today (me and the dog) and it was that very coldest of breeze directions, the north easterly, so if you have similar, yes, wrap up well. Met office app just popped up a possible snow warning for tonight here.

    Oh my word, starting to feel a bit better again after a brutal weekend.

    Had the mental low on Friday but had already said to Mrs S that I felt a bit off on Thursday... Friday night feeling restless, couldn't sleep with stomach cramps, then laid out most of Saturday with feeling icky and same cramped feeling, no appetite, sleeping on sofa, drinking plenty of root ginger tea. Woke up Sunday morning and the cramps had dissipated, but just had no charge in the battery whatsoever, so more sleep on the sofa, drifting in and out of football commentaries and the snooker.

    Good thing? Rediscovered honey on toast. Haven't had it for ages, but had a fancy for it for a simple supper last night. With the stomach still feeling a little fragile, a nice uncomplicated bit of natural and unprocessed sweetness for easy digestion is looking a likelihood as well.
