Not a coincidence public archives are disappearing at the same time unpolluted training data for LLMs & other content generation systems have become valuable. (even as we are told they have no value, so no one should get paid)

This is very ugly and we need to have a real conversation about preserving human history, expanding and archiving the body of human knowledge, attribution, and royalties.

Our leadership is too craven and not educated enough in these matters to do it.

UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks.

This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.

Saying that covering faces allows protesters to have some level of anonymity to be more aggressive, to me more entitled to say what they want because they don’t fear repercussion in the same way. Would you support that endeavor? Governor Hochul: There was a ban on masks before the pandemic that you couldn't have face coverings that didn't serve a purpose. For example, a surgical mask for someone who is elderly or ill — the pandemic removed that from our State Law. It was repealed at the time, but I absolutely will go back and take a look at this and see whether it can be restored because it is frightening to people. You're sitting on a subway train and someone puts on a mask like this and comes in — you don't know if they're going to be committing a crime, they're going to have a gun, or whether they're just going to be threatening or intimidating you because you are Jewish, which is exactly what happened the other day. Absolutely unacceptable in the State of New York.

    No surprise it is Jewish leaders calling for this. The only defense Israel has when it is acting reprehensibly is to name, shame, intimidate, and threaten those who challenge them.
    This political argument holds no water.

    19 April 1926 | A Dutch Jew, Joseph Olman, was born in Rotterdam.

    In February 1944 he was deported to Auschwitz with his parents (in the picture): Eliazar Israel and Cornelia. They were murdered in a gas chamber.

    Instead of saying all Palestinians are Hamas, or all Israelis are Likud, listen to the people on both sides who want peace.

    These days, the streets of Tel Aviv are filled with protests calling for Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation.

    Six students have measles in an outbreak at a Florida elementary school.

    How did Florida's health department respond?

    Their Surgeon General sent out a letter that supports parents sending unvaccinated children to school during the outbreak and doesn't recommend vaccination.

    There is a cluster of measles cases that has been identified at Manatee Bay Elementary. The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is continuously working with all partners, including Broward County Public Schools and local hospitals, to identify close contacts. Measles can be transmitted four days prior to the start of symptoms. When measles is detected in a school, it is normally recommended that individuals without history of prior infection or vaccination stay home for up to 21 days. This is the period of time that the virus can be transmitted. However, due to the high immunity rate in the community, as well as the burden on families and educational cost of healthy children missing school, DOH is deferring to parents or guardians to make decisions about school attendance. This recommendation may change as epidemiological investigations continue. Joseph A. Ladapo, MD, PhD State Surgeon General
