Web-scraping is good, actually.
Scraping to train machine-learning models is good, actually.
Scraping to violate the public’s privacy is bad, actually.
Scraping to alienate creative workers’ labor is bad, actually.

Companies like Clearview will tell you that scraping is legal under copyright law. They’ll tell you that training a model with scraped data is also not a copyright infringement. They’re right.

If they [AI companies] were being truthful, they’d say, “There’s no way to use copyright to fix AI’s facial recognition problems, that’s something we need a privacy law to fix.”

In America today, that includes: Fire departments Police Ambulance Public schools Public hospitals Student loans Veteran's benefits National weather service Road & bridge construction Unemployment insurance Bank deposit insurance Medicare Social security FEMA GI bill National parks Food & drug safety NASA CDC Hazardous waste disposal and cleanup Sewers Military Republicans want you to be afraid of socialism. Which of these things scare you?

    Anscheinend muss man doch immer mal wieder daran erinnern: die Zunahme von Extremniederschlägen ist in den Messdaten belegt, das ist Konsens (IPCC-Bericht), seit 30 Jahren so als Folge der Erderwärmung vorhergesagt, und die Physik dahinter ist seit dem 19. Jahrhundert bekannt.
