There is an American presidential candidate touring the country, talking about deporting the "criminal immigrants".

Also, that presidential candidate is from an immigrant family himself, and is himself a convicted felon.

Fairly sure his ancestral homelands (Germany and Scotland) would refuse to take him back.

The run-up to the in the UK has more than a hint of Blackadder about it: both Tories & Labour have Cunning Plans which are doomed to fail by ignoring history.

@RussCheshire
I've often thought there should be another series. Blackadder's Brexit. Starring Rowan Atkinson as Dominic (Cummings) Blackadder, Steven Fry as Cameron, Hugh Laurie as Blow Job and Miranda Richardson as Liz Truss. And Tony Robinson as Chris Grayling.

Staggering losses for Putin's soldiers the last 24 hours.

Theoretically, if you lose 25 tanks per day, you need to produce 750 new tanks every month — and that is just the tanks.

The last reports I saw estimated, Russia produced 24 new tanks per month — the rest were refurbished old tanks. So the Soviet era tank storage yards are really being emptied at maximum speed.

It's getting more and more like WW1. Trench warfare, slow gains and losses. Until eventually one side ran out of soldiers and equipment.

Without looking it up what is closest to 8oz?

(Curious how well the relation between oz and metric is generally known.)

@pthane@toot.wales avatar

@futurebird Makes no sense. Ounces are a measure for weight, Litres (or milllitres for volume.

Britain's defense minister challenges the international court: Arrest warrant requests against Netanyahu and Gallant will not affect our continued arms exports to Israel.

Isn't they just lovely people? They are for law and order

I am really sick of being embarrassed by our government. These bastards have to go. Soon. And not be allowed anywhere near power ever again.

The EU banned phone roaming charges in 2022, but the US has still to prevent phone companies from preying on their customers.

Recent case: T-mobile charges an American USD 143,269.75, for using his T-mobile subscription in Switzerland.

(Update: As pointed out by @ErnstGucker below, the same problem could exist for EU citizens traveling in the US, because the EU legislation only applies to the EU. However I have never heard of a bill this excessive in Europe)

@randahl
In the UK we were assured phone companies wouldn't reintroduce roaming charges after Brexit. But guess what?

What is about to go down that the rats are fleeing the ship?

@futurebird Much the same in the UK. We're due a general election this year, date to be announced, and the Conservative party are expected to do very badly. Rather than wait til they lose their jobs many are going now so they're ahead of the queue for consultancies and non-exec directorships.

@GottaLaff Lawyers have private life shock. Visiting someone late doesn't mean you are 'dating' (weird US euphemism). Could be work related. Could be a friendly fuck, who cares?

If you've ever read about design, you've probably encountered the idea of #PavingTheDesirePath. A #DesirePath is an erosion path created by people departing from the official walkway and taking their own route. The story goes that smart campus planners don't fight the desire paths laid down by students; they pave them, formalizing the route that their constituents have voted for with their feet.

1/

A photo of a 'desire path' - a path worn through the turf in a park where people have left the paved path and worn away the grass. The image crossfades so that the grassy lawn of the park is replaced by a 'code waterfall' as seen in the credit sequences of the Wachowskis' 'Matrix' movies. @pluralistic Even people who failed geometry are smart enough to realise that when crossing a rectangle the diagonal is shorter than two sides. Planners have yet to figure it out. See also retail parks where savvy pedestrians make their own entrances rather than follow the meandering route designed for cars.
