@madgeface@mastodon.art

Technical writer & fiber artist - #knitting, #spinning, #embroidery, more. I take commissions.

I'm a perpetual weirdo, dabbler, atheist, on the left, writer, intersectional feminist, fan of eclectic music. I live in northern Virginia, in the US et je parle un peu de français, mais toujours j'ai des problèmes grammaticals, so I read it much better than I write or speak it.

I try not to toot or boost uncaptioned images, but occasionally one slips past me.

I offer the unshadow of window at sunset for

It's not about the view but about light. :bowie_stardust:

I went outside today after all. Rosie's been digging in the garden beds and big pots and can't currently be trusted for too long alone.

The lichen on the cherry tree is really liking this rain! Hur hur hur ... I'll be all night! :blobcateyescoffee:

A closeup- of a round-ish light green lichen on a grayish-brown branch. The lichen has frilly, ruffled edges. I actually wonder if there's another type growing on top of it; the green changes to something yellower, more deep like the green of moss.

@dillyd Mine is here and I napped 3 times today. Pretty sure I'm living The Dream(TM)! Good luck tomorrow; maybe a delivery service can come to the rescue?

@dillyd I seem to be making an art out of napping lately. I'm hoping my contract will get me back on stride.

@dillyd Any signs of cherry blossoms chez Val? This is our one tree that produces actual cherries (although they're more pit than cherry) and then we have several doubles cherry blossom trees than have just started budding out.

@dillyd The doubles are Kwanzan cherry trees. When they bloom, I'm planning a surprise! picnic with my partner under them.

@dillyd It was the same here and now I want to bundle up and watch the stars & planes and satellites cross my clear suburban night sky. Maybe when the weather is a bit warmer ...

@dillyd My Mom has a collection of vintage insulators also! I need to ask her where her vintage glass collection is!

@dillyd scritches and a few tiny Milk Bones (we keep them on-hand for Rosie). Such a cutie!

Maple flowers. I've seen everybody else's photos a few weeks ago and I feel like a late bloomer up here in the north. Like back in elementary school when I always wore last year's fashions.

Several clumps of red maple flowers, further along in maturity. They have big bundles of straw-colored pistils and stamens protruding like blond hair

@dillyd I'll probably have cherry blossom photos then also; we have Kwanzan cherry trees that bloom a little bit later than the the ones around the Tidal Basin in DC.

@dillyd Holy cats, Val! I grew up in Barnard/Woodstock - the same Upper Valley area that Quechee is in. My big prom was at the Quechee Club and my aunt and cousin both live super close to Quechee Gorge! The only car accident I've been in (rear-ended) happened on that bridge because pedestrians were crossing and the person behind me didn't stop in time. Ah, my old teenage/childhood stomping grounds ... and I totally agree about getting a squeegee from Quechee!

@johnlehet @dillyd Yes it does. A high school classmate of mine, Patience Sawyer Hutt, died on it in 2013 after a tractor trailer crossed the double lines.

@dillyd @johnlehet A somewhat safer but far slower router is River Road, when it's open between Taftsville & Woodstock. I broke 6 ribs and got a concussion on a rope swing on that stretch of River Road (a silly and preventable injury but teenagers).
