Story Concept: A secret society of paleontologists and archeologists who make a pact that when each of them dies the others will go to wild lengths to stage burial circumstances most likely to be preserved, even fossilized to confound the intelligent life of the far future. This includes weird burial objects, suggestive poses, etc.

They make the pact when young & silly, but as they grow old and carry it out it becomes a much more serious & momentous thing. About keeping promises & friendship.

@futurebird : I could see that as a TV show, with new death every episode or so. It'd be a fantastic exploration of the inexorability of deaths and the ways we make sense of it, of the rituals that keep the living going in a time of loss, of that hunger for learning from the past that turns into leaving your own mark in the present, of a metaphor about legacies and what we choose to leave behind for later generations... I'd watch that.

Looks like Mastodon's experimental branch is trying stuff out with how you create posts:

-Unlisted post visibility has been renamed to "Quiet Public"
-Mentions/DMs is renamed to "Specific People"
-Polls have visible control for switching from one answer to multiple answers
-Content Warning title bar has been tweaked
-Visibility and language menus more prominent
-Tweaked artwork

Screenshots attached, people on servers running the experimental branch will already be seeing this in action.

@FediTips : honestly the trend numbers have never seemed hugely accurate to me anyway. As someone who LOVED to monitor international trends on Xwitter so I could see when a country was making one of their local TV shows trend, this has been one of my biggest losses on Mastodon. But that was before it was so heavily featured in the new toot interface.

@FediTips : the problem is that countries are not equally represented within one server. I get what you mean, don't get me wrong, and I have more or less made peace with that loss. But for me it was a tool for curiosity, and now it's like, at best I see trending every Sunday night XD
