Recovering CIO. Edge-case pedantic. Runs with scissors. Won’t speak on all male panels. Physical nomad currently residing in Philadelphia who works in municipal government IT. 🙋‍♂️he/him/his.

Big fan of #DoctorWho #StarTrek. Hobbiest into #RaspberryPi and #HomeAssistant. Avid #SCUBA diver. Still enjoy talking about #technology although I tend to look at it through the lens of #SocialJustice now.

Inflation eases slightly ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision - CBS News https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cpi-inflation-report-federal-reserve-may-2024/

@GottaLaff @lisamelton It absolutely makes my blood boil when they talk about inflation and interest rates being the fault of “a stubbornly robust jobs market.” Like, if you people who get laid off would just not get new jobs and descend into abject poverty like we need you to so that the CEOs get their bonuses, we'd really appreciate it. Why isn't inflation attributed properly to “stubbornly robust profiteering by companies who overpay their CEOs.”

@stux we call that the falling edge gambit. It decimates the opponent because every piece they move they lose, and none of your pieces even engage.

@jerry just scrolling by the picture, it looked like a bunch of Imperial Walkers joined by leashes like the ones you see them attach to preschoolers when they go out for a walk.

    Hmm.. I kinda super dislike the fact I'm paying for a TV subscription but I am only able to use their "official" receiver or watch via their site

    I understand that they can't simply share the URL/file and key but arrggh..

    The only way to watch TV via my own media service is illegally, it's almost as if they try to force me :blobpirate:

    @stux you can always enter cablecard hell where what you can actually decode is left to the whim of some random engineer. In theory Verizon and Comcast will still let you get anything but premiums with a cablecard and something like a Silicondust HDHR Prime. But it’s a pain in the ass.

    Well, I guess I should round out my social media posting about this here. Today my job with the City of Philadelphia was eliminated as part of restructuring within the Office of Innovation and Technology. If someone is looking for a former CIO with experience in municipal government and higher education, I'd be happy to chat. #FediHire

    YESSSSSSSS. I don't remember ever being this excited for more Doctor Who. Not since I was watching re-runs of Tom Baker eps as a kid and didn't know what a re-run was.

    (At one point my father had to explain to me why they all looked so '70s despite that being SOOOO last decade.)

    @vampiress I’m looking forward to it, but this bullshit where it’s season 1 again just because Disney put money in really makes me want to poke Davros’ eye out.

    kyleejohnson ,
    @kyleejohnson@jawns.club avatar

    @vampiress true. Although I can at least understand the season reset after like 15? years off. I’d number by regenerations, but it’s not like we can even use those since they can squeeze an unknown group in anywhere they want. Or dual count every time Tennant shows up.

    The principle problem with John Williams' Superman theme is it's so epic that when you hear it you truly DO believe you can jump tall buildings or judo-chop a 747 in half.

    Unrelated in any way, I seem to have stubbed my toe.

    kyleejohnson ,
    @kyleejohnson@jawns.club avatar

    @vampiress That theme is so epic I had it on CD (John Williams Greatest Hits I think) when I went to college. We would play it at full volume in the dorm anytime anyone had a big test, and everyone would stand in the hall making Superman poses.

    A significant development in the polling world: 538 has dropped Rasmussen from its model for failing to meet the required criteria for pollsters. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/03/08/rasmussen-538-polling/

    What the hell is this?

    I made it 3 minutes into Katie Britt’s astonishingly bad SotU rebuttal

    Drop on the comments how far you can make it into this clip before turning it off

    @flexghost 11 seconds. But I think my brain froze at 6 seconds and it took 5 seconds to recover and check the time stamp.

    @vampiress Does that mean you’ll send it back? I mean, catch and release is always a good idea.

    (god I hope catch and release is not a super American thing that won't translate well)

    I’m in a long line for the bag drop at the airport. A robotic cart joined the queue. It alternated between demanding people move in Japanese and English, and voicing the same demands at a variety of barriers.

    People have done their best to acquiesce to its demands, but it’s now stationary and shouting in multiple languages.

    @kyleejohnson@jawns.club avatar

    @elizabethtasker @alicemcalicepants I understand where the robot is coming from. The world often causes me to be stationary and shouting in multiple languages.

    @vampiress my spouse and I were watching the first episode of Wild Cards. Jason Priestly appeared, and my spouse said, “he got old.” I just stared at her and told her that he’s 6 months younger than I am.
