Hey, UK-based users of instagram, they're going to start using your data to train AI models.

You have the 'right to object', however: https://help.instagram.com/contact/233964459562201

They say 'if your objection is honoured it will be applied going forward,' which sounds like some bullshit thing where they decide not to honour it, but when I submitted I got an immediate automated confirmation that they'd honour it, so if you want to keep using instagram, make sure to click the link and tell Meta to kick rocks.

In all seriousness, I think nothing portraits better today's than the clown that is currently the ambassador of that genocidal state in the shredding by his own hands the UN charter while accusing everybody else to do what he was proudly doing himself.

Stop the genocide in

login: success.

And this, from @karakam is the very first toot I've got today on the feed - https://mastodon.social/@karakam/112286675441463101

And today I'm choosing this thread by @pluralistic (with him it's never just one post), whcih I got via boosting (my own boosting, done on the phone, but who's complaining?) as the best post at the top of the feed - https://mamot.fr/@pluralistic/112286478224407685

Your periodic reminder that if you:

a) Dislike long threads and;

b) Follow someone who routinely posts long threads;

that is a YOU problem, which you can solve by unfollowing, and, if need be, blocking that user so they don't show up in your federated timeline.

@pluralistic following you and complaining about long threads it's just silly.

That being said, I don't do threads, unless each toot works individually (or the stuff I add is an afterthought). Otherwise, whenever I feel like writing longer stuff, I write it on the friendica account I opened just for that and then boost it here. I find it much neater that way.

Has anyone else noticed that major sites no longer work with @mozilla Firefox Reader Mode, e.g. @BBC_News_Labs @guardian, etc?

Error is "Failed to load article from page"

For this low-vision reader, this is a massive accessibility regression.

jorgecandeias ,
@jorgecandeias@mastodon.social avatar

@pluralistic @mozilla @BBC_News_Labs @guardian I just tested the Guardian in reader mode and it works. Kinda. All navigation goes away on the main page, but if you click on the articles themselves and then put it in reader mode, the text is there.

jorgecandeias ,
@jorgecandeias@mastodon.social avatar

@pluralistic @mozilla @BBC_News_Labs @guardian The BBC news labs, on the other hand, give me a certificate warning (SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN)

And they indeed do not allow browsing in reading mode. The option doesn't even appear on the firefox menu.

There's a new free open source Reddit-style platform for the Fediverse called PieFed. It's still fairly early in development, but you can try out a demo server at:

➡️ https://piefed.social

There's more info on its official website at:

➡️ https://join.piefed.social

You can follow the project at:

➡️ @piefedadmin

It's lightweight and written to make it easier for developers to contribute. (For any devs reading this, it's written in Python.)

@FediTips @piefedadmin

Oh man, I really wish fedi developpers at least tried to come up with names for their projects that didn't risk getting confused with other projects.

Piefed, read in a hurry, is way too close to pixelfed...

    @philip_cardella I know, I know, that's not the point of the toot, but I can't help it: whenever I see this idea the as oracle of the future I itch to tell people it's not, it has never been, it won't ever be. SF is, was and will be about the present.

    @philip_cardella (and besides, AI as it's being used is a misnomer. It's not intelligent in any way; it's just statistics and data crunching)

    @philip_cardella Yes. Massively.
