@GottaLaff No way there will be a J6 trial b4 November. Trump will appeal every word that comes out of Jack Smith's mouth, and the court system will at best enable his stalling tactics, and the worst (Judge Cannon, Supreme Court) actively assist them.

Am I the only one who unequivocally thinks that philosophy has made progress? Perhaps I have a different definition of what progress means, but surely I can't be the only one?

The number of theories and arguments that philosophers uncovered, as well as the clarity and breadth of their analyses, is certainly progress.

The question is, in and of itself, important to ask and to lead with when many of us refuse to admit that this is even happening — and prefer to pretend otherwise.

Many of us prefer to pretend that life under a man who has proclaimed his intent to be a dictator won't be so bad after all — at least, not for us and our kind.

@wdlindsy Trump is controversial gold, so he gets lots of uncritical attention. Biden’s accomplishments, on the other hand, are boring and get little attention, whereas controversy about his age and his gaffs gets lots and lots of attention. It's the business model.

We're seeing now what happens when you pump a trillion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in only a few decades, heating the ocean to levels never seen in human history and threatening the survival of everything that makes our lives possible.

More than 90% of excess heat trapped in the Earth system due to human-caused global warming has been absorbed by the oceans. But as the ocean continues to warm like the rest of the planet, its waters are projected to become less efficient at taking in carbon dioxide and could then release it back into the atmosphere more rapidly.

The past is gone. Continue to hope and work for the best, but prepare for the worst.
