Whoa there buddy. That would put my butler's butler out of a job. Also where does a person park their yacht if not inside another, larger yacht?

dream_weasel ,

He could try a joint series with Brandon Sanderson!

dream_weasel ,

I would like to use this system you propose. 0 is room temperature, plus/minus 100 is death by freezing or heatstroke... But we probably have to do some work to make units fit in a linear way. Are you filing the patent or am I?

dream_weasel ,

Kinda resembles a good coating of panko to me.

dream_weasel ,

Hard agree. Star wars ended up being total trash. Somehow avengers movies (while steadily decreasing in quality over time) are generally decent.

dream_weasel ,

This is the trump version I'm most familiar with.

dream_weasel ,

Ranked choice voting should naturally handle that. Two parties with increasing polarization is the natural outcome of FPTP voting.

dream_weasel ,

infininately dogshit, you say?

dream_weasel ,

She was running against Trump, the PAC stays against Trump... I mean yeah it's all a shit show but it's not that unreasonable. He is (and should always be) a red letter shitty candidate.

dream_weasel ,

Did you freehand this yourself?

dream_weasel ,

I... Don't even know what to say. Your tattoo looks like buttholes, but now that I look at the original it is not far from the mark.

Theres not much I dislike more than anime itself, but this tattoo and it's source art now fit that bill. Bravo?

dream_weasel ,

I don't have any tattoos, this is just from "all" for me. Idk how you think youre gonna get built up about a tattoo that looks like it was a B+ drawing by a 6th grader BEFORE you thought "aw fuck yeah I'm gonna have that on me permanently!" by a gas station quality tattoo artist. ATAAE

When anyone anywhere can easily make TV & movies, will America lose its greatest source of soft power - exporting its culture via Hollywood?

A combination of millions of people with production skills in California, and a huge domestic market able to spend billions has fuelled one of America's biggest exports - TV & Movies. They're not the biggest exports in dollar amounts, petroleum brings in almost 50 times more, but they give America something else apart from money...

dream_weasel ,

I don't know how you figure an independent studio or individual will be able to keep pace with the likes of Hollywood or HBO. The premise is ridiculous. There's more to it than good cameras, good microphones, and some minimal computer processing. There's the story writing, script and dialogue, sound and sound engineering, sometimes CGI, the location and set that is immersive and complementary, and a slew of other stuff covered in the credits to contend with. Unless you think everyone on the planet is going to prefer blair witch style movies your future isn't close by, it's literally never coming.

Now you might say that AI can solve this problem, but unless you've got lots of people with the vision and ability to write unreasonably explicit prompts, that future is also way, way, WAY off and still improbable: consider how many pictures of people with hands and teeth there are and see how bad AI generations are. You can't give 30 Marvel movies as training data and expect the next Ironman to emerge from your fanfic write up.

dream_weasel ,

I haven't looked at sora but I hear good things. Even still though, as someone who works in AI, the outcome you get is only as good as the data you put in for training and there just isn't enough yet. Even if there were, people are super sensitive to plot holes and inconsistencies. Though, you might be able to get Michael Bay to retire ;).

dream_weasel ,

Where's the gas car on here? How about steam locomotive?

If I've got to go 300+ miles through the US I'm probably not going on foot or by human power.

dream_weasel , (edited )

Lol. Sounds good. My little brother lives in Birmingham, AL and I live in West Lafayette, IN. My sister lives in Fishers, IN and my in-laws are at one of the northernmost suburbs of chicago. I invite you to propose me travel solutions for my wife and two children under 5 which are better than my electric car.

For reference:

West lafayette to Birmingham: 875 km

West Lafayette to Fishers: 112 km

West Lafayette to North of chicago: 260 km

I would LOVE to take the train or bike or walk. But I think people like you and OP might be underestimating the hostility toward (and unavailability of) public transit in the US outside of Metro areas. I appreciate that there are better answers than my electric car, but it's better than getting in my double wide and double tall diesel truck, no?

dream_weasel ,

It would be more surprising if they found bones with evidence of Up Syndrome.

dream_weasel ,

Please describe the grey area here lol

dream_weasel ,

You gotta add more context bc without any context this comment looks stupid AF. Hence the downvote storm.

Edit: and referencing tankies doesn't make any sense either so let's dial it in.

dream_weasel ,

What is it like having a disability? Do you wish we made more efforts to accept you on social media? You may be closer to a lefty opinion than you think.

dream_weasel ,

Man I do what I can. Patrolling Lemmy is a thankless job. Even more thankless than reddit. But, hey, it's gotta be done.

dream_weasel ,

I'm glad you didn't bring any of that I individual thinking or discussion with you when asked, so not Sith or Jedi, maybe like like remedial gungan?

dream_weasel ,

So you're Sith then and your grey area argument is actually shit? Idk what are we talking about?

dream_weasel ,

Sorry about ya mate. Can't win them all.

dream_weasel ,

No.

I'm not deleting something I post unless it breaks the rules. I'll take the downvotes and if you think it's disgusting there's your method.

dream_weasel ,

No I'm not being a wuss for the sake of pleasing an internet commentator. Sorry about your delicate sensibilities. If you delete your posts that's your business, I don't.

If you can't deal with the fallout for commenting, don't comment. I can handle one blowhard and a handful of downvotes.

dream_weasel ,

Sorry man I agree he's a sith lord, but I thought you were the original dingus in the thread not a newcomer lol. Too many threads going on

dream_weasel ,

Sorry you feel that way. I live with chronic pain myself and it's not a lot of fun. That being said...

I don't know why insinuating that a person might be disabled and wanting of more consideration is offensive. I didn't suggest he's missing an arm or a leg or give some ableist writeoff, I said instead that maybe acceptance is what he is looking for and that would not come from the far right.

Sure, it's mincing words and it's a hedge, but I don't think I'm going to apologize for pushing people's buttons: they go low we go high is BS because the only people who benefit from that arrangement are the bystanders. They go low, I'm gonna be waiting to kick in the teeth. Everyone playing the disgust and downvote is on the team watching out for people already. Thank you. I am going to walk in shit to piss people off: you're not going to change someones mind by giving downvotes and "being best" (lol yeah right).

I said a dick thing, I accept it, and I hope it pissed that dude off. Then when he goes to try to refute me, he has to read, learn, and consider the situation. One of three things comes of that. He ignores me, and who cares. He thinks and gets mad and doubles down, also who cares, being nice wasnt helping anyway. Or maybe it causes a moment of thinking and clarity that starts discussion.

I'm not going to be nice so the anonymous internet left gives me a cookie, it's not their minds that need changed or nuts that need kicked. You be the good guy who posts and is fediverse famous and I'll be the unknown guy who goes wrestle pigs in the shit and thumps the pigeon playing chess (to borrow some expressions).

dream_weasel ,

Well seeing as how it seems like you're an asshole too, I could kinda give a shit about what you think. Apparently you have to be heard in every thread on this post though and I wouldn't deny you replies. Go outside lol.

dream_weasel ,

Can't take silly seriously obviously. Can you at least entertain me and any brave readers if we are gonna keep going? I'm not going anywhere.

dream_weasel ,

I can't see your image can you try again? I'm pretty invested now.

dream_weasel ,

Lower vs middle class maybe sure, there is discussion there. Skilled vs unskilled labor: you don't know how to read even Wikipedia. It has nothing to do with skill (you can watch a guy dice an onion in his hand in 4.2 seconds and it's still "unskilled labor") and everything to do with choosing the right vocabulary to express a point: some jobs require college or trade school and some do not.

dream_weasel ,

Could have**

Yes this is always the way. We will all tell our kids we walked to school uphill both ways in the snow until forever. Hopefully they all still go to school.

dream_weasel ,

I don't know how to respond to this? I mean yes you are right but the compression is not situation agnostic which is the whole point: some jobs ("skilled labor") require a particular degree or pretraining as a point of entry, and others ("unskilled labor") do not. It doesn't mean it's not valuable or not worth pursuing, but it's a mincing of words that are poorly chosen in the first place.

At the end of the day yes both varieties are worth pursuing and are necessary but one has a zero knowledge entry point and the other does not. I don't agree with "skilled vs unskilled" as vocab goes, but this is the point.

dream_weasel ,

No you've missed the point. It has nothing at all to do with value or pay scale as you can easily see by comparing a B.S. grad in engineering with a trained plumber who will definitely make more money. All "unskilled" means is that you didn't go to school to start. Period. It doesn't mean it's not valuable or doesn't require skill, it means whoever started the discussion picked shitty words.

dream_weasel ,

No youre conflating how you define the word "skill" with the actual definition. It's absolutely unfortunate but just means you didn't go to school to get the job.

dream_weasel ,

It seems to me the point you are making is that you take issue with the choice of wording ("unskilled") and I do too. That doesn't mean it doesn't represent a real category. It's school vs no school so use that word if you want. If tomorrow I want to apprentice as a plumber I can, if tomorrow you want to be a researcher in artificial intelligence you can't. You can pick the wording but that's a real distinction: a job board in your town will hire a line cook with no experience, or an apprentice tradesman with no experience, but that is not true for every single profession. They all take skill in the long run, some have a barrier to entry and THAT is what the words (which are badly chosen admittedly) are for.

dream_weasel ,

Yes I would because that's how the terms are defined. It doesn't mean it doesn't require skill, it just means that's how some nitwit decided to divide the categories.

Edit: to be exceptionally clear, these categories have NOTHING to do with how you define the word "skill". I didn't pick the words, but you can't force it to fit a definition of skill because this is the accepted meaning. Sorry.

dream_weasel ,

I may have responded to you without reading carefully enough. It seems we are in fact making the same point on the reread.

dream_weasel ,

I for one hope he is miserable every moment for the rest of his life.

dream_weasel ,

What is your favorite thing disabled people can't do?

dream_weasel ,

Oh well. They get constant catering by dems and they're really just Republicans anyway considering how far to the right "the middle" is around here.

dream_weasel ,

If Japanese is not your first language and you start throwing it around because of cartoons... maybe reconsider your life choices. Specifically consider getting one: it's not all about pointy hair, side mouths, and painfully and autistically explained emotions and social interactions. But hey what do I know, I'm just an outsider to this deep and rich culture... 🙄

dream_weasel ,

I don't care who you vote for, bucko. I'm extending you the courtesy of explaining that when you go party 3 with no chance in hell of winning, anyone who understands how FPTP voting works thinks you're remedial. It's not some great virtuous act of protest of the system; you could just stay home and smell your own virtue farts instead of wasting the gas *shrug*
