My problem with this kind of shit is that she is absolutely not standing up for her rights. She's sponsored by a right wing group. Granted, it's possible the lobbyists approached her after her case became public. But her associating openly with them shows what values she's actually interested in.

In that case, she absolutely should have to do that 1.5 hour course to learn a little about 1/5th of the population of the country.

How do you connect with people and make friends without social media?

I'm struggling to figure out how to make friends without having Instagram or any other social media. I have discord but don't use it much. I see all my acquaintances in discord channels and sharing Instagram posts and stuff. It's already hard for me to make friends, but I feel like not having any of the traditional social media...

Discord is social media. What you need, my friend, are hobbies. Or the meetup app. Or to just go look up events in your area and go to them. Hobbies work because then you can find other people locally who are also into your fetish hobby.

I’d like to add to the voice about Memo. It’s very nice, stable, loads of features if you want them and actively growing.

Also, OP, I’m reading a book about Mary Shelley and her mum Mary Wollstonecraft. The latter was present during the French Revolution and was disillusioned by the violence and degradation of women’s rights she saw. So it’s very interesting to see more women’s writings on such topics.

What are you passionate about outside programming? Reading? Writing? Hiking? Tv or movie watching? Connecting with friends? Gossiping about the neighborhood?

What ever it is… do that. Focus on that. Then, if you still want to build personal projects, see if the tools around those hobbies are adequate and to your liking. If not, there you have it. Your next project.

If everything is good and you enjoy your hobbies, please understand that software engineering is a job. You don’t need to do it outside work as well. It’s like asking brick layers if they have personal taj mahals that they’re building brick by brick outside of their daily work of building other people’s houses. They’ll look at you like you’ve lost it.

Also, there’s something called journalist norms. If Reuters decides, for example, to start calling them bribes, everyone can start calling them bribes. It’s only libel if it’s not the norm to describe things that way. Same with calling them “lies”. “Non-truths” is such a stupid journalistic standard. They should have stuck with “lies” from the beginning.

"reporting all the facts" is an editorial decision as well. There's nothing stopping newspapers from reporting on statements by politicians and comparing those statements to the objective truth or facts within the same reporting. The only thing stopping them is all-sides-ism. I was going to say that fear of getting sued is also stopping them, but they actively do a lot of reporting that gets them sued or killed and they happily go on in the name of First Amendment and journalistic freedoms. So yeah, it's literally an editorial decision to report only on "blah said this!" instead of "blah said this, but the facts don't support it!"

As for spoonfeeding, sure that's always a bad idea. But there's always a fine line, isn't there?

nitpick here but there already are terms for saying something that's not true (whether the speaker believes it or not) - one is "lie" and the other is "untruth". There was never the need to create a new word for it. I'm not saying language shouldn't progress. But in this case, coining a special term for jus Trump gave him too much power in our collective consciences than was necessary.

To be fair, these posts seem to be youth who are hating the immediate environment which is affecting them. Not the entire country. However in typical youth hyperbole, they’d rather write that they hate the whole country rather than specific people in it.

Also, this can be generalized to be youth of literally any country in the world. These issues they’re bringing up are part of the human condition.

I had an issue recently with getting FileBrowser to run and while researching that, I found this tool which creates a docker-compose.yml file from a docker run command. It worked well for me, so I am passing it along to you all. I hope someone else finds this helpful....

I use this almost every time I need to launch something on my Portainer setup. It’s not perfect but works like a charm to convert simpler docker runs into yaml files.
