(bad) art dabbler, comedy enjoyer. I probably think your employer is actively harmful to human civilization, or at best complicit in our self destructive downward spiral. emitter of bad unfinished music #derpplates. I can't buy/donate to all the artists on this platform, but I do boost a lot of it. You all make some cool stuff

I've repeatedly posted a Lawrence O’Donnell vid on why dropping NOW (key word) will lead to prob's. START AT 6:30, pre-6:30 is a waste: https://mastodon.social/@GottaLaff/112700224365400519

I will not debate this anymore

The compulsion to convince people Biden should drop falls on deaf ears bc the person making the ult decision is Biden, nobody else

I’m so over people trying to convince me, others why he should drop. WE don’t decide, HE does

If he drops, we vote for the Dem

If he doesn’t, we vote for him

End of story

@GottaLaff you're right -- now what happens if they recount florida and overturn the election?

We all need to make it clear to our social circles that the corrupt judges on our SCOTUS have just armed MAGA with machine guns for this upcoming election!

caitp ,
@caitp@mstdn.social avatar

@GreenFire thats such a dumbassed argument, and you know it. Coasting on "not as bad as the other guy" is not a big motivator for voters, and you know it. And younger voters are absolutely not down with the image of Joe enabling and giving a green light for the IDF to commit mass murder -- They've seen this show before.

If the DNC gave people something to believe in more often, people would happily vote for them every time, enthusiastically. But "Not as bad as the other guy" is not a motivator

caitp ,
@caitp@mstdn.social avatar

@otownKim @GreenFire No, what I'm saying is "give people something to believe in, and they will vote for you". That means making the right promises, and delivering on them. If you handwave away their beliefs, feelings, or needs, thats a you problem. That is not conducive to reaching them.

A student asked me “If I really wanted to do something about climate change & all this injustice do you think I should just try to become a billionaire so I’d have real power? Or should I be a judge so I can make the big decisions? or president? Who has the most power? who can fix it?”

me: Listen if I knew the answer to all that I would tell you. I think it matters what you are good at? What you think you can do well.

student: whatever it is I need to do well I will learn it.

@futurebird I think each of those jobs/situations requires so many connections and favors, and puts your hand so close to the 🍪 jar, it would be very hard to get the job and perform it in a rational and unbiased way, at least at this point.

I don't think it can be changed without a major grassroots cultural shift, and maybe that can happen when people talk (and listen) to each other more, and organize our thoughts more collectively

I've largely dismissed the strain of AI alarmism based on the notion the a computer will be so smart that the danger it poses to humanity is outsmarting us.

There are real dangers in AI, most of them relate to people using these technologies in improper ways due to having a poor understanding of what they really are... and most important the exploitation & degradation of the human body of knowledge creativity represented by publicly available digital information. 1/

caitp ,
@caitp@mstdn.social avatar

@futurebird I don't think we need AI to be "terminator" to be scary. The idea of AI creating kill lists based on data collected by google, in conjunction with the ability to triangulate an exact location very precisely with satellite video or nest cameras, traffic lights, etc, and the willingness for humans to sign off on kills with minimal effort, and automated weapons delivering the kill and destroying the whole family with it -- already happens, allegedly, and already terrifying

caitp ,
@caitp@mstdn.social avatar

@futurebird @viq yeah, I wouldn't say we don't do horrific things on our own too. but every time we make it easier to see other people as just records in a database, it gets easier for people to do this stuff

"lf a person refused to (unmask), that right there should cause you some sense of alarm."

NYC Mayor Eric Adams continues to encourage businesses to request customers to unmask. This is ableist, puts people's health at risk, and is NOT required by law.

Clarence Thomas ruled in favor of Citizens United. Harlan Crow and his family's political contributions then went up 862%. Then we later find out Thomas let Crow take him on lavish trips, buy his mom's house, and help fund his wife's conservative nonprofit. See how this works?
