The 1918 Influenza Pandemic and the Rise of Italian Fascism: A Cross-City Quantitative and Historical Text Qualitative Analysis Evidence linking past experiences of worsening health with support for radical political views has generated concerns about the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The influenza pandemic that began in 1918 had a devastating health impact: 4.1 million Italians contracted influenza and about 500 000 died. We tested the hypothesis that deaths from the 1918 influenza pandemic contributed to the rise of Fascism in Italy. To provide a “thicker” interpretation of these patterns, we applied historical text mining to the newspaper Il Popolo d’Italia (Mussolini’s newspaper). Our observations were consistent with evidence from other contexts that worsening mortality rates can fuel radical politics. Unequal impacts of pandemics may contribute to political polarization.

    I don't think people understand how much of food pricing is because of a perverse complex system that ensures profits because we've gotten to post-scarcity on some goods. Like milk. It's only not oversupplied and worthless because we break everything to stop it.

    The colonial core presently has an abundance of dairy because its depriving the rest of the world of resources and digging its own grave with cattle. So its not so much post scarcity as it is that the major fraction of all cows milk that will ever be produced on Earth is being produced all at once and in a few small areas, and you're paying for it in human blood (also many other creatures' blood).

    Sorry, post scarcity is just a real specific term for not what you have.

    Wow, I hope you're right about all that stuff. I was under the impression cattle broadly was the problem.

    i think i need to read more about livestock, i really only knew "birds less bad by a wide margin" and "beef very bad"

    i think i only know of dairy farming methods within the beef cycle, this stuff is broadly outside my knowledge

    when drugs got in 2014-2020 it was almost always just guards bc absolutely nobody gave a shit about pretense because of the power imbalance you mostly describe, laws are only there to hurt captured people in my experience
