@blag @FediTips There's actually a bit of software called FediFetcher that server admins can install that fetches all the replies to the posts that you look at.

I don't understand the technicalities but I do know it's been set up on my instance (illo.social) and it definitely improves the experience. And also saves me duplicating a reply to someone when I can see that 10 other people have already said exactly the same thing!

I understand the importance of alt text for images. But as I was drafting my image description just now a question occurred to me – in adding alt text to images am I also inadvertently making it easier for the AI bots to scrape my artwork?

@doomofthedesert 😆 I’m definitely going to have to look more closely into glaze and Nightshade.

And yes, I think you’re right - accessibility probably trumps my fears over AI, especially as it seems from other answers on here that they can scrape equally well whether there are captions or not.

Do you want to have a locked-down account on where only people you specifically choose can see your posts?

You need to do two things:

  1. Switch on your account's follow requests, this will allow you to screen who can follow you. (More details at https://fedi.tips/restricting-who-can-follow-you-in-mastodon)

  2. Set your default posting visibility to "Followers only", so that only people you've chosen can see your posts. (More details in the "Default Visibility" section of https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon)
