I think that's a fascinating idea, but we continue to seek colour in our screens and such so I'm not sure if we truly want relief. I mean, I don't. I get mad excited when I enter a room with actual colour in it.

My family are contractors that typically service wealthy clientele. The brains behind the painting and decor side of things told me that people prefer white/beige because it maintains it's value. From what we can observe with this post, teal took 10 years to financially bomb. White is still going strong and can be mixed into a very wide colour palette with furniture and decor, etc..

I think they're referring to the widespread cruel mistreatment of pigs in butchering facilities like was reported on here.

It goes beyond harvesting bacon, but I wouldn't be surprised if most people are unaware of how bad it is.

If you are exposed to lies and manipulations a lot, maybe you developed a defence mechanism against language.

I have, and for example my boss loves to fist-bump me and compliment my work. This means nothing to me because I know he's a POS scum human through his actions.

My aunt is one of the loveliest people in the world, yet she let slip once that she befriends people because they're useful to her. She's nothing but smiles and good gestures, yet it's only to use and discard you, as I've observed throughout her life. She meant it. Thanks, wine.

My father is in jail for basically being Andrew Tate.

Compliments can be real, and they definitely feel more real when they're still expressed behind your back, but from my experience humans are generally playing a shitty social game. That's why rude people are so great - you're actively putting yourself at a disadvantage in our relationship just to express yourself? Fuck yeah, preach your feelings buddy!

Awwh damn, sorry you lost your group of homies to a goober :( I'm glad you had other friends at the time though~ Losing everyone because of one goob sucks.

It's not always easy to accept these behaviours though. Even after my aunt's radical statement, I needed a lot of introspection in order to find, well, reality lol. Jesus Christ take me back

I concur with your conclusion, but I also love to balance it with a paraphrased quote who's origin I don't recall...

Never trust someone who says they've never stolen

It has two sides: Humans are corruptable, but we are also redeemable. It helps me put the humanity back on people my brain would otherwise villanize. I'm ever the optimistic ideallist though. :p

No, I believe soul is an abstract concept we like to define with our ego after misinterpreting a bunch of ancient people with a unique writing style that doesn't translate well into our age.

I found exploring alchemy better defined what the soul meant for me.

My $500 laptop I panic bought after an employee started talking to me

It's incapable of anything and stutters when I start Firefox. I have a freebie laptop I got from Telus 10+ years ago that runs better than this off-the shelf laptop.

I couldn't in good-conscience sell this to make my money back either... sigh... at least it keeps me focused on work..?

Eww, removing Windows was the first thing I did. It's running Manjaro and was my first jump into Linux actually.

Revive? No, but it's the life support it needed.

That sounds fun, but I was (and still am) an idiot and locked myself out on the bios. I've reset locks on bios before, but as I've discovered recently, Acer found out you can charge people for the privilege instead.

At that point, I'll simply use this as a learning experience and continue exploring Arch. Another bevi of copium for me, please.

Mayhaps. My brain becomes mush when multiple people talk to me, so all the laptop information in my brain disappeared. I awkwardly followed the conversation and ended up buying what was suggested since the only thing on my mind I could think was "I need a laptop"

I was looking for a little notebook. I needed something for work that was very portable, but this is clunky and heavy. Good for thwackin' I guess.

I normally buy online just to avoid this, but I wanted to check out the local store for convenience. It was an ambush I'm telling ya!

Unfortunately I've watched my guy friend do this to his gf and then followed it up by shutting her down when she didn't answer immediately.

I was taught the same multiplication/division for 3 years straight.

I did have a section on those 3 M's in math, but it was a small part of the curriculum and over in a flash. I recall nothing of value.

Except the mean which came back up extensively in G10 Chem and that was it.

Watching my younger sibling do math was even worse especially when they transferred to online and a lot of the questions were actually wrong... which was a great exercise in learning, but... ugh.

Sorry friend, but not in any meaningful way as far as I'm aware. :(

When I was 13 I was 'encouraged' by my family to get a job. I had no interest. They pulled some strings and I began illegally working (14 was the legal age) for a small family diner. At this time I just wanted to fiddle on my tech as I was very nerdy, but my family didn't want me to "stay in my room all the time," so pointless labour it was.

I did appreciate the liberation I gained from my family, even if I didn't have the knowledge of what to do with it; How to expand upon it. Probably for the best imo. I spent my whole first paycheck on some games that me and my homies would play in the garage and made great memories. If there was a life lesson to be learned during this whole experience, I never understood it at the time. Eventually I was let go from work since no-one taught me how to perform my job duties well enough. That's life, though!

By luck, one of my caring high-school teachers managed to slip-in his own curriculum. He taught a class of ~15 students some important financial skills... how mortgages work... how to create and manage savings... credit building... Bunch of important life stuff that I would consider essential knowledge in our society was an optional course I learned through word-of-mouth/happenstance.

???

why

Meanwhile and my ultimate gripe with this thread and tying this back into a dystopian - I see some people mention they learned valuable life lessons and a bunch of other copium. Witness me and your kin around you. Is the knowledge you gained - the wisdom acquired through action and experience - is it gained through labour? No. I didn't and others didn't either. Can it be taught safely without forcing children with a young developing brain into dangerous work environments? Yes. I gained such wisdom later from the safety and comfort of my school. And we rest on the final point with a question:

How many opportunities in the common layman eye are there for children to receive education on the matter?

If your experience had 1 or more, I'd love for you to share such experiences here as it's eye-opening to those who received and did not receive such privilege. I'm certainly interested! :)

I appreciate it. I've scoured an uncountable amount of debates over years and its helped me become aware of new ideas.

I doubt I'd have woken up without them
