I’m just your average Canadian wolf. I’m a siren enthusiast and railfan as my main hobbies. I run the Civil Defense Sirens Wiki, and am working on restoring a few vintage sirens (such as a FS&S Model L and a rare Sterling Siren MOD. F) as well as a 1970s Safetran mechanical crossing bell.

I read that it would give the riders time to think things over, in case they realized they didn't want to die. The coaster would allow for those who change their mind to get off and descend once reaching the top of the hill, I think there was supposed to be a button riders could hit to signal the operator.

It's like they forget Lemmy is a small enough community that people will recognize usernames and patterns of behaviour. They shouldn't be surprised at being called out on multiple occasions.

Sadly blocking them doesn't prevent them from harassing other people. Their behaviour is awful and it likely drives away new users. They can still vote and reply to your comments, you just can't see it yourself.

Especially with how poor their moderation is. Wintermute regularly deletes comments they disagree with, Momo is left to insult people and rage with near impunity, and it regularly spouts misinformation/disinformation. It's an example of how NOT to run a community.

They do that partially to encourage people not to sit down and eat inside for a long time. They want you in, buying their trash, and GTFO quickly after. They make the seats intentionally uncomfortable so you don't stay for long.

nor how letting a large, poorly moderated instance run wild can negatively affect discourse on the entire platform. Before Hexbear was defed'd on lemmy.ca, Lemmy was damn near unusable on many threads because of the spam and trolling. Blocking them doesn't stop them from bothering those who haven't and it affects the platform as a whole.

It's a lesson Caesar's Legion in Fallout New Vegas taught us. A cult built around a charismatic leader often collapses into infighting when the leader dies. They follow the man, not his ideals. It may not happen right away, but it will given enough time. The followers will start to disagree on small things, some will be scooped up by some other charismatic grifter. In the end the movement fractures.

The burden of proof is on the accuser. I'm genuinely interested in your evidence, if it does actually exist. Nobody here is calling you dumb, but you're throwing around a lot of accusations that aren't backed up by anything. Evidence would make your case a lot stronger.
