we have been Out. it's the first time i've been in a big supermarket in a while, and i had forgotten what capitalist hellscapes they are. who needs an entire massively long aisle of different types of frozen potatoes?

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway @moonrabbit I usually wait until its pouring with rain, and then go and do a supermarket shop. If its raining hard enough, the number of shoppers can be in single figures. 😊

YES! My seat voted Labour for the first time ever, ending 100 years of Tory dominance here. Majority of a little under 4000 for Labour. Ohhh yes.

Went for a walk in the woods. And when I came back I fell asleep. It is rather nice weather today, fancy that.

Sometime this afternoon, I need to go and cut back the bramble in the garden. I know some people would want to get rid of the bramble entirely, but I'm happy for it to be there - it lives in a very shaded corner between two fences and underneath a rose bush, it's good for bugs which in turn provide food for birds, it also provides fruit for birds (and occasionally me). It belongs there.

However, given half a chance, bramble will take over the world, so it needs a firm cut every now and again.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway At one time this garden was chiefly bramble. I still get plenty, but just along 1 edge now. I'm reluctant to clear them all out, as you say the insects and birds enjoy them, and I love bramble jelly. 😋

Fucking hell. It never gets easier to describe what I actually do at work, why I have to spend so much time working around the problems with the system. I'm the only person in my team who ever has to deal with this and nobody understands. L at all. Kind of upset.

@RolloTreadway Sending supportive vibes.
For about 15+ yrs I was the school librarian in schools where headteachers and others thought they could do my job in their coffee break. I used to go to the network manager for moans/sympathy/support. Who else had a clue?

Okay, I've cut my hair, I've cleaned the bathroom, I've done a little life admin, I've fed the birds, I've fed myself, now I think it's time to try and call the internet people.

@RolloTreadway Contacting Internet providers has become like that. My 75 year old neighbour has just been told to contact her provider via WhatsApp to resolve an issue 🤦🏻‍♀️

Blehhh.

After pissing down yesterday morning when the met office said it definitely wouldn't, it's now not raining when they said it definitely would.

Could've had my still-damp laundry on the line all morning.

Do I risk putting it out now?

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway Risk it. And if it starts getting dark, run to get it in. Well that's what I'd do 🙂

A happy voting day to all who celebrate. Or to all who have a vote. And who haven't already voted.

(And please do vote if you have something to vote on! Local elections do matter. The things that councils, mayoral authorities etc do really does have a direct impact on so many things - education, parks, roads, libraries, museums, leisure centres, housing, planning, taxes, public transport, and so on. It genuinely is important, even if the national political media don't care.)

(And I'm sure that voting for PCCs is also important in, um, some way or other. Can't say I've ever wholly understood the point of them. But still, vote!)

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway PCC is the only vote here. A record low turnout is expected. 🙄

Jealous of all your cats. Why can't I have a cat? Or a dog. Or a chinchilla, whatever. No fair.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway My daughter has repeatedly been laughed at when she's asked if she can keep a hamster in rented flats. She could - it seems that usually hamsters don't count as pets, nor do budgies! (But please don't tell them, in case they are upset.)

Mowed the stupid lawn. Another good thing about getting rid of that lawn, if I could do so, would be that it might stop people letting their dog shit on it.

Why would you let your dog shit on someone's lawn anyway? And not pick it up? The fuck is wrong with some dog owners?

I love dogs, I've had dogs in the past, I wouldn't dream of letting one shit on someone's lawn.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway I get very aggravated by other people's cats doing the same thing in my garden - they particularly prefer my raised vegetable beds. 🤬
I sometimes fantasise about owning a large ferocious pet and letting it run free. "It ate your cat? I'm so sorry, but I couldn't possibly keep it in at night, it needs to roam and hunt."
I've never owned a pet that had free access to other people's homes or gardens. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm home. Things went okay at work with the big audit meeting, at least from my perspective; some senior people might get a ticking off but that's not my problem.

It was also a shorter meeting than expected, and would've been shorter still but that my colleague is a very talkative person.

Thank you everyone for all your positive wishes. Fingers crossed things might get a bit better now. I'm hoping this is the last business I have with that damn audit, it's been going on forever.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway 🤞The audit is now firmly in the past.

Reminds me, I have a question for enthusiasts.

Do collared doves nest in chimney pots? It's just I've been trying to figure out where the collared dove couple must be nesting as there isn't a suitable tree in the right kind of location.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway I'm pretty sure they will if they can.

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway Around here it is usually jackdaws nesting in chimney pots. I have a variety of tops on my chimneys depending on whether they are in use or not, all of them should deter nesting birds. But they don't stop pigeons and doves cooing down the chimney to me 🙄

You know how December is all about mince pies, and the run-up to Easter is all about hot cross buns?

There should be a special baked treat for every month in the year. Why isn't there? Why am I not enjoying a delicious April Cake or Spring Bun or whatever?

Sarah111well ,
@Sarah111well@mas.to avatar

@RolloTreadway
My mum always made saffron buns ie small saffron-flavoured sponge cakes in pretty paper cups at Easter, my husband always insisted on parkin for Bonfire Night.
