The American revolution ended in 1783, and tens of thousands of soldiers had died to end monarchy rule in the land of the free.

I wonder if back then, anyone had imagined, that one day, the US supreme court would be abused to turn the presidency into a new monarchy, where the president has immunity — like the kings of the dark ages.

Members of the US House will now move to impeach supreme court justices. It sounds absurd, but this is where we are: A total war has begun in the US legal system.

@randahl And they long deserve to be impeached. The bench needs to be cleared.

Media coverage of Republicans stampeding to NYC to attack Trump's trial as illegit is marred by euphemism. This isn't just "currying favor" w Trump or "expressing loyalty" or auditioning to be his VP. It's placing Trump over rule of law

Rs are attacking judge, witnesses, prosecutors & trial as illegitimate. This isn't just helping Trump evade the gag order. The point is also to display in spectacle form that their fealty is to him over the rules that make the system function

The sad reality is that despite obvious differences and being objectively better, most mainstream Democrats in office (Biden, Pelosi, etc.) have more in common with MAGA Fascists than they do the people who VOTE Democrat.

Google is feeling so emboldened by the AI hype that it wants to take another swing at Google Glass. Not only this product, but the entire company needs to feel consumers’ wrath if it dares to even try.

So they're just making more devices destined for landfills, just like the OG Glass Devices and Stadia Controllers.

I feel conflicted about this because I know journalism is in a rough spot, but I also hate the online ads so much. Usually I’d say this would be a nudge to force them to change course, but given the media’s in such dire straits, I’m not so sure this time.

I'd actually be OK with ads so long as they:

  1. Do not interrupt the content and are unintrusive.

  2. Do not masquerade as actual content.

  3. Are relevant to the content.

  4. Do not track / identify.

  5. Do not play sounds / video.

(4 + 5: Basically context-based ads rather than user-tracking ads).

Old school (pre-Flash) ad banners and Project Wonderful style ads were generally OK/unintrusive. Not worth blocking and, sometimes, actually presented something I'd be interested in.

When Phil Spencer took over Xbox, he sold himself as a fellow gamer to win player support. He used that vibe to convince them industry consolidation would benefit everyone.

But now we’re seeing the real costs: layoffs, closures, and fewer games. Spencer was always serving the company.

And some gamers thought MS buying Activision would make gaming BETTER. Because they liked the faux persona Spencer puts on versus Bobby Kotick not giving AF if people knew he was a douchebag.

That was always laughable, but hopefully those people understand how they were suckered now.

Why are we talking about whether paying fast food workers a better wage will drive up the cost of a Big Mac instead of asking how much McDonald's CEO's $17.8M salary is driving up the cost?

Disappointing to see the UN Secretary General say AI has “enormous potential for sustainable development.”

It’s another bullshit tech solution that distracts from real climate action by promising a magic technofix. The UN needs to stop falling for this.

The UN is practically useless, unable to stop a literal and obvious genocide as it is happening.
