This bullshit just infuriations me. Nearly every country ALREADY HAS LAWS that prevent minors from buying vapes (and cigarettes, etc.) Just enforce the damn rules rather than turn two pack a day people back to two pack a day people and then have to pay for their cancer treatment.

Oh simply be polite and most of all have a sense of your surroundings/situational awareness, i.e., don't get in the way. You probably want to spend as little time in the main "downtown" area (roughly central station to the Rokin) as possible.

Although everyone under 80 years old speak near-native English (I exaggerate), you'll endear yourself by learning to say good morning, good evening, thanks, and please in Dutch and to start conversations by asking "Is English ok?" in Dutch.

Basically just don't be a jerk and the native Amsterdamers will happily take your holiday money.

It's still possible, in my opinion, to visit as a "tourist" (I live in Haarlem now, so technically I'm a tourist when I go) and avoid all the trashy stuff. You can seek out the cool little neighborhoods like the Jordaan or de Pijp.

It's good and kind of you to explain SMART ...but let me tell you as exec management it's bullshit designed fulfull some other HR exec management's last HR course they took, or some obscure ESG requirement.

I tell my people what needs doing, and then they *just do it *because they are far smarter than me at their own jobs and usually find a more efficient way, with better outcomes, than I could design. I set an overarching goal, they do the rest how they see fit.

Hire the right people and you don't need corporate schemes like this.

While it’s all fine and good to just say “hire the right people”, that’s a gross oversimplification.

I'd say it's combination of chemistry and luck. I have one position that, thank god, it now filled with a really cool dude who took the job based on the flexibility it offers, but I've been here five years and had six people in that role before he came along. Then I have a lady who, on paper, didn't look very qualified, but she came across as confident and honest in her interview. I've promoted her three times in four years. All that was a combination of the interview chemistry plus a ton of luck.

And yes, they are all indeed smarter than me in multiple ways! The other managers are insanely jealous of my team. I guess I, for once in my life, got lucky!

This is a good answer and probably the right solution (still not 100% convinced defederating isn't, ultimately, going to be the answer though).

But your Jane/Joe Average User doesn't look to see which instance that pr0n cute picture of a cat holding a teddy bear is on. They probably don't even understand the concept of different instances showing content from others. Hell I've been online since 1992 and it took me a couple of days to get my head around it when I joined.

So I think we need some kind of step by step "If you see X, then do Y" sticked to the instances that care about this for the people who (like me) do care about this issue.

I will sound like a shrill, but I love everything they make. Even though the City Pack Pro X-Pac became, accidentally and relative to initial cost, the single most expensive bag I own due to my stupid brother.

I live in Europe, and you have to pay big taxes on any imports by mail. So I asked my brother if I could mail to him and he’d mail it to me, like in the old days (20 years ago or so). Sure, he says no problem, when do you need it? I say not in a hurry but leaving for a trip in like three weeks, so if it made it here by then that would be nice.

Two weeks later he texts me saying I owe him USD 120 for shipping. I said WTF? He sent it express, like an idiot. The bag costs about USD 239. So, ok fine it least I’ll have it for my trip.

Nope. Three weeks later I call the UPS center. They got my bag, all right, but I owe EUR 135 in taxes and duties. My brother - who used to know how to do these things, insured it for USD 400 and wrote on the item description “brand new back pack.” That fuckwad (whom I love, but damn bro, you grew up stupid sometimes).

Anyway even at that price it’s worth it, and it too has all the features you mention above + in X-Pac + with a contrasting interior color. I may have gone to their flag ship “store” (a tiny, tiny little store front) in SF and fanboy’ed for an hour or so before buying a small inside bag. And I may or may not have ordered two of their computer peripheral storage bags, one for me and one as a bribe/tribute to our head of IT…

Anyway, ahem. It’s the ultimate combo between a carry on bag and an (largish) urban commuter bag. /Shrill, and if anyone from Aer is reading this, a discount code maybe?

I think the problem people have with criticism, valid or otherwise, is that this is no time to raise any doubt whatsoever about who should be president next. Yes, that's a propagandist's position. It's also the only morally and practically correct one given the existential challenge we face.
