I can’t be the only one who thinks it’s risible to see a campaign from the people who make gambling legal to tell us all about the harms of gambling.

@vampiress @abstractcode That looks extremely well regulated, and certainly less socially harmful than what we have now.

Do I NEED a 23rd camera?

No.

Do I WANT a Fujifilm X100 series camera?

Oh god do I how!

Shame the fuckers are so expensive.

@vampiress I have never even heard of anyone with 23 cameras. You should strive to attain that record. You go, girl!

NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy pepper sprayed himself in the face at point blank range in response to a New York protest against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. https://nypost.com/2024/05/12/us-news/top-nypd-cop-pepper-sprays-himself-breaking-up-anti-israel-protests/

The trains were out because Sydney, so I decided just fuck it and walked to tonight's venue.

That's ONE way to make up for not getting enough exercise earlier in the week.

14,000 steps, 11.6km

Good thing I got a ride home or my legs would be 100% dead right now.

“Quiet quitting” isn’t a real thing, it’s the product of an emotional disorder experienced by managers, where they have a vague unexplainable suspicion that their team members are terrible even when they’re producing superb work. Any company concerned about quiet quitting in their workforce can completely eliminate the phenomenon by clearing out their middle management ranks. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/work/2024/04/25/quiet-quitters-test-employers-even-more-than-staff-departures/

There needs to be a Mastodon feature where once a post hits X number of boosts, it self-destructs.

Nothing good ever comes of too MANY people boosting a post.

“A world-first study has found that when asked a health-related question, the more evidence given to ChatGPT the less reliable it becomes -- reducing the accuracy of its responses to as low as 28 per cent.” https://www.csiro.au/en/news/All/News/2024/April/Good-evidence-confuses-ChatGPT-when-used-for-health-information

@vampiress @stilgherrian Seems pretty obvious that ChatGPT has passed the peak of its hype cycle. Sora is OpenAI trying to convince its audience that they aren't a one trick pony (they're a one trick pony)

@stilgherrian I've never seen a use case for an airplane which requires $100,000 worth of repairs if someone runs a shopping trolley into it in the Coles car park.

@stilgherrian @vampiress Amphibian. It's not terrible, it's just been flown by idiots who've crashed it into lakes.

NewtonMark ,
@NewtonMark@eigenmagic.net avatar

@vampiress @stilgherrian The other fun thing about it is that it's marketed as the kind of thing where you can land it on a lake, throw out the anchor, fling the doors open, kick back, and spend the afternoon fishing before you fly home again.

Which neglects the fact that one of the only things that makes fishing on a lake fun is beer. Which you can't drink if you're flying. :-)
