    @vampiress What kind of workshop? Opinion research? Working group? Planning? Something else?

    NewtonMark ,
    @NewtonMark@eigenmagic.net avatar

    @vampiress So it'll be like a lecture with an interactive element?

    Maybe start with a brief-ish monologue about the philosophy behind the tool to get attendees into the right head-space, then introduce some representative example case studies, then walk through implementing them.

    You'd have to choose case studies/walkthroughs to fit the available time.

    The most recent data dump from NSW Health shows the lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since December 2021. https://covidlive.com.au/report/daily-hospitalised/nsw#2020

    @vampiress You can't explain it to Americans. They just don't understand it.

    @vampiress If it’s any consolation, the original Commodore joystick was the same as an Atari joystick, just injection moulded in a different color.

    The pinouts on the DB-9 were the same.

    There weren’t many joystick OEMs at the time.

    If you pull it apart you’ll see a board with switches made out of steel wafers pressed into a dome shape which completes a circuit when flattened. The wafers eventually crack. These joysticks are definitely life-limited.

    @vampiress This was the joystick everyone wanted. Virtually indestructible. Expensive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAC-2

    @vampiress I'm only mildly surprised that they've survived for long enough to be available on eBay in 2024. It's even odds whether it'd survive being driven over by your car tyre. Very solidly built.

    “It's a great time to be a cop [in NSW],” apparently. In this photo a young female officer notices the camera and shows a semi-smile, hoping the male officer on the left sees it too and doesn’t choose this moment to taser to death the nice old man on the right. Because you know he wants to.

    @vampiress @stilgherrian For a long time my ACAB mantra is that there are no good cops because every cop is either violently corrupt or knows someone who’s violently corrupt without doing anything about it, and any normal person would resign in disgust to get away from it all.

    (Works for sociopathic politicians too)

    If that’s what your friend’s girlfriend did, I’m going to feel a bit validated right there.

    @vampiress What happens to a Mac SE if you don’t snip out the CMOS battery?

    @vampiress I’m reminded of SPARCstation IPCs, which have a button-cell to keep the NVRAM in a NV state, and when it goes flat the Ethernet MAC address defaults to 00:00:00:00:00:00 and you need to enter some Forth code from the boot prompt to set it to a sensible value.
