If I find myself overplaying certain songs, I sometimes have to force myself to take a break because when I don't, I usually end up ruining/disliking the song. I hate when this happens because perfectly good songs that I love end up irritating me because I have heard it too much. Do you stop listening to those songs or just play...

Roll 20 kind of sucks. They haven't made tangible improvements in years for performance, and the gm and player tools are lacking compared to other options despite making money hand over fist.

We used roll20, and it sucked, and ruined the experience in a lot of our sessions. You're all like role playing, getting into it, and you can't cast your spells because of roll20. We put money into it, buying shit for our games. They put money into youtuber sponsorships instead of improving the platform. It's personal. You finally get 4h of overlapping free time on a Friday and the adventure won't load. Do you understand now? We switched, but we still hate it. Knowing that they still haven't improved years later just feels like "yeah that's about right". Fuck roll20.

While I can see where you're coming from, about 90% of the music I listen to is some kind of metal. Most of it is just about cool nerdy stuff but there's definitely some truly horrible shit in there. I have yet to and don't intend to do any of it.

I think the bias comes from how loud some of these shitty people are. They build the stereotype. For the most part, people just mind their own business, go to work, raise their kids, and bob their heads to the beeps and boops.

Same kind of change was made in the Three Body Problem series. Instead of the cosmic microwave background radiation flickering for a character who is viewing it through a device, all the stars in the night sky flickered for all of humanity. Lots of yadda yaddaing the science as well in that show.

For me the first thing that comes to mind is Tales from Earthsea. I don't think it's excellent or anything and has plenty of problems but people act like it killed their dog. While it has its problems that have been covered extensively, I think it has a beautiful atmosphere and art....

When I have a rough day or don't sleep well the night before, I take a 30 minute 'nap' when I get home after work. It's strictly 30 minutes.

It doesn't matter if I fall asleep or not, it's a strict 30 minute limit. I set a timer and I stand up when it rings. This lets me turn an otherwise completely wasted evening into something salvageable. Then, I can have a regularly active evening - I cook, play games, paint, whatever.

I don't really have trouble falling asleep after that at the regular time, or maybe an hour late. I do struggle sometimes to 'boot up' after the nap, and it doesn't always help (mostly when I don't actually fall asleep) but it has worked for me more times than not.

Also, I drink a LOT of coffee - way too much. This is what works for me.

This might be a misconception but I think like it might depend on how the people think about the concept on a regional basis.

If it's 'floor', the ground floor is the first floor. The one above ground floor is second floor.

If it's 'etage', the ground floor is below the first floor. I know 'étage' is the french equivalent for 'floor' but 'etager' is 'to layer (something on top of something else)'. So you have a building with the basic ground floor, and you 'étage' other floors on top.

Revisit the thread and scroll down to find that picture of his tweets. People like to pile on other shit that bothers them but realistically, NDT is kind of a blowhard and a bit weird. His ackshewalley attitude doesn't help either.

I've said it before, I found his conversation with god podcast episode to be in poor taste - sort of smarmy and condescending, and this is coming from an atheist. I'm sure there are plenty of racists that hate him for his skin color but not everyone has such easily dismissable reasons.

Nah. When he first became popular he presented himself as the new Carl Sagan. The one who would continue his legacy. Those are big shoes to fill and he did not live up to it because the fame got to his head. He's getting the appropriate amount of hate as far as I'm concerned.

To my knowledge he's not getting death threats and people aren't trying to get him fired or put behind bars. People want him to cut the weird shit out and be a better science communicator. You don't have to do illegal or immoral things for the public to dislike you.

For example, to my knowledge, Brian Cox seems to be a perfectly normal guy and a good science communicator and people still say that he gives off a weird vibe. Literally people don't like him because of a vibe.

Cox is a little more moderate with his religious stuff, and much less outspoken politically but it's not clear to me either of those are necessarily virtuous.

Those things definitely matter to me and to other people. There are ways to broach those subjects that don't paint you in a bad light - for example only when prompted or in the rarest occasion.

I use 3 monitors. One is for the task I'm doing, one is for reference material for the task, and the third is for my sanity. That last one is where youtube/memes/whatever are. I can focus extra hard if I need to, but I prefer not to. When I started out, I used to get home completely burned out, and incapable of doing anything but eating, showering, and vegging out in front of the TV or PC.
