I am once again calling for for this data scraper. This is the 4TH TIME they've created a new instance because of our blocks.

    Infinite scroll is a blessing and a curse, combined with algorithms, they can become quite addictive.

    That is the whole point of developing a project right, for people to actually use it, and the most possible?

    I know, there are detriments to encouraging excessive use, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that algorithms and infinite scroll are here to stay.

    The question with @loops is, how we can encourage the most healthy use?

    I am looking at self-hosting the package of Fediverse services such as Mastodon, Pixelfed/Groups, Loops and possibly others for my own use. I should be able to install it all but unsure of what is involved with maintaining and securing them. Can anyone offer insights into it all?

    I also feel the need to remind people that Pixelfed Groups are an opt-in feature, you will never see group posts on the main timelines (home, network)

    Groups will have their own separate feed, and notifications too!

    While Groups will support text-only posts, outside of Groups, the existing photo/video attachment requirements for top level posts apply.

    Pixelfed remains focused on photo and video sharing, groups just extends this to support other mediums without an account on another platform

    what exactly is stored locally? what data is extracted from that local data and sent to the company's servers? is that local data being backed somewhere?

    Got an email today from a very smart computer science professor who is totally flummoxed by the signup flow. He tried to follow it based on what Mastodon tells him (the standard verbiage) at my site after reading one of my posts via a URL, and despite creating several accounts at other sites doesn't understand how to use any of it. This is a smart guy. The onboarding and basic explanations situation is still a mess.

    @GottaLaff my legal birth name is Michael though my kindergarten teacher in 1973 asked me what I wanted to be called and I said Mike. So, I went much of my life with everyone calling me Mike until about 20 yrs ago. Makes me wonder if that would be prohibited with Floridas asinine new laws.

    We're now in the 26th consecutive month of unemployment below 4%. We haven't seen this since the 1960s. This is what can happen when you fight back against trickle-down economic nonsense and invest in American workers.

    If the Kroger-Albertsons merger goes through, that combined company + Walmart would control 70% of the grocery market in over 160 cities.

    Think grocery prices are bad now?

    Without competition, it would be a price gouging free-for-all.

    This is why the FTC is suing to stop it.

    This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’ll state it anyway.

    Those of us fortunate enough to have access to washing machines and dryers should use them as little as possible.

    Try to wear your clothing — shirts, trousers, socks — more than once, ideally several times, before washing them again. That will save water, save energy, cause less pollution, and make your clothing last longer.

    Never anticipated I would add Groups to Pixelfed. I saw how my partner uses FB Groups and it clicked.

    This is exactly what we're missing in the fediverse, a means to discover and engage with interests and topics that interest you.

    Hashtags and local/network timelines only do so much.
