Preparing a new @pixelfed APK with tons of bug fixes and improvements.

Then off to the app stores ✨

@dansup @pixelfed I hope for those bug-fixes, because this latest beta is horrible and mostly unusable.
By going to settings and want to change something in the profile app force closes without any traces in the logs.
No dark mode, no media download option, no gif playback stopping option, hashtag follow/unfollow doesn't work, no auto unhide media marked as CC and many, many more issues are present there. Such app state should be considered as an early alpha, instead of beta. Imho.

@dansup @pixelfed Good job! Do I need to install those betas clean or can I just update in place - never version on top of the previous one?

MartinBe ,
@MartinBe@mastodon.social avatar

@dansup @pixelfed Okay, I will try it.
Thank you for the answer. 👍

    @dansup I will just write as wise old people used to say:
    "No one has ever managed to catch several magpies by the tail at once. Trying to do that brings always and only very sad results".

    The EU banned phone roaming charges in 2022, but the US has still to prevent phone companies from preying on their customers.

    Recent case: T-mobile charges an American USD 143,269.75, for using his T-mobile subscription in Switzerland.

    (Update: As pointed out by @ErnstGucker below, the same problem could exist for EU citizens traveling in the US, because the EU legislation only applies to the EU. However I have never heard of a bill this excessive in Europe)

    @randahl People with very outdated contracts, without int. roaming incl. can have such issues especially in Switzerland, because this country is a bit specific in the terms of mobile network use. You need to be aware and careful in which canton you are and what prefix you're using for dialing. 0 is not a same as 00. Zero is for calls within Switzerland only. Double zero is an international call prefix only.. If you replace them by mistake, you may have huge problems and a very big bill to pay.

    @randahl 2/2 The second important thing is, that Switzerland is not in the EU. It is in the european calling zone, but every of the so called "border municipalities" can charge an identical call (same outgoing phone number, same calling time) made from an us-based mobile number with the different ratings and the cost differences can be significant. The best way to avoid problems is to buy an pre-paid sim-card from a local virtual operator/isp. Those are most cheapest and reliable ones.

    There's a strong tradition on here that you should add alt text descriptions to any images, videos or audio files you attach to a post. These descriptions are important because they make attachments accessible to blind and/or deaf people

    However, some people can't write alt texts due to their own disabilities. If that's the case, they can include the tag #Alt4Me in their post to request help. Others who want to help can reply with an alt text description and the tag #Alt4You.

    @FediTips How about still not yet having an such simple function as an text scaling in the Mastodon mobile app? How about high contrast mode? How about disabling emojis if someone want to use screen readers? Those are bare minimum must-have things for many, many people. For some they are also even very decisive one to use or not to use Mastodon. So.. Why they are not done, not implemented into the Mastodon's UI yet? Especially since the ActivityPub's API has been providing them for a long time.

    @FediTips @weirdwriter I know that and I also use an third party app, Fedilab. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to use Mastodon service at all. But most of the average people or beginners are doesn't aware of such things, that some apps can be much more efficient used or are even available for. Besides implementing something ootb, that exists from the very beginning is not that hard, isn't it? Especially when some functionalities are today an "must-have" ones and looking at the actual standards.

    @FediTips @weirdwriter No worries, I am not. I did managed my Mastodon use to my personal needs and is working fine. It is only strange and bit sad that the original creators didn't think of it right away, but others did it for them. Especially since something like this is now a generally accepted and applied norm.
