Late Gen X. Adopted city Norwich, started out life in Dorset. Juggling twins, hearing aids, politics and climate concerns. Partial to dramatic landscapes, Wes Andersonesque architecture, unsung historical figures and Peanuts cartoons. Do we all get better at juggling or do we acknowledge some balls are just too precious to drop?

Labour Party: 9% (-1)
Lib Dems: 3% (-2)
Reform UK: 4% (=)
SNP: 2% (-1)
Plaid Cymru: 1% (=)

None of them: 9% (+1)

Yup is toast…there is no return from these depths of political ineptitude. Whoever is advising him is going to struggle to work in politics again.

When we look back at this globally critical election year in 10 or 20 years time, will we remember the individual absurdity of right-wing politicians or will we acknowledge the truth of what said in one of his final pieces of writing?

“We’ll go down in history as the first society that wouldn’t save itself because it wasn’t cost effective’

This is such a good election poster…it’s up there with Saatchi and Saatchi’s work for the Tories, like there 1978 campaign gem ‘Labour isn’t working’

It’s not about necessarily agreeing with their work from a personal perspective, it’s recognising the simplistic power of their advertising message.

Profoundly #deaf man awarded £50K after mistreatment by job centre staff

‘Although he had not met him and knew little of his background, the official advised colleagues that Rimmer’s deafness was not a significant barrier to work and suggested his complaints about lack of deaf-friendly support were a way of trying to wilfully “sabotage” efforts to help him find a job.’

There are voters out there switching from #Tories to Green Party…we’ve seen that happen at a county level in Norfolk.

#Sunak has taken his rural, nature loving older core vote for granted and they are disgusted at the state of our rivers and fearful of what may come for their children with #ClimateBreakdown.

The writing is on the wall for Tories and they won’t vote Labour.

The UK government is completely out of step with other European countries on Israel and Gaza.

France and Germany support the ICC in issuing an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.

Spain, Ireland and Norway will today announce they recognise Palestine as a state.

Meanwhile, Tory ministers seek to punish public bodies who don’t want to do business with a state that has killed 34,000+ people - mostly women and children.

Wanting to hold Netanyahu (and Hamas) accountable for war crimes is rational.

Judges act to thwart attempts to have a defacto ban on protest in the UK…

‘The High Court has ruled that the Government acted unlawfully in creating legislation which gave the police ‘almost unlimited’ powers to restrict protests.

Following a landmark legal challenge from human rights organisation Liberty, the Court has ordered the law to be quashed.’

I heard on Times Radio just a couple of weeks ago promising compensation would be paid out soon to victims of the infected blood scandal.

If the proverbial fails to deliver on this promise this side of an election will it cost the even more lost votes? That is what the bean counters in the Treasury are basing their decision on this weekend.

It’s been another of those weeks where I don’t know how I’ve made it to Friday evening…bedtime is still in progress and I’m sure I’ve discussed every one of these constructs over the past few weeks with the kids: gender, society and money.

But there are glimpses of hope…

Seeing them empathise with each other, want to protest against something other than me and taking evening walks in the park.

My work colleague who has never discussed politics with me came up to me this morning and asked whether I had seen what was happening in US universities in terms of protests about the war in .

She then got out her phone and showed me a clip that had left her distraught of a female Economics professor being grabbed by police and having head smashed into the pavement.

This colleague visited Auschwitz last month. She’s not antisemitic. Watching it had brought back memories of George Floyd.

The Tories wants to criminalise carers who have the temerity of working in Tescos on the weekend and infringe their weekly earnings cliff edge by somewhere between 50p and £3.

These are people working very low paid jobs to keep the wolf from the door and have a chance to talk to other humans outside of their caring responsibilities.

Why is limit so low and always assumption of deceit?

Went back to reading ‘I Want a Better Catastrophe’ by American Andrew Boyd today…I find a little goes a long way and I need time to absorb.

This paragraph is an example of the gallows humour…but if Churchill could honestly be co-opted into the narrative of how to address the #ClimateEmergency that would sway a huge chunk of England currently not caring…

Dr Andrew Boswell is trying to hold government to account for not meeting its commitments or acknowledging if you build more roads, there will ultimately be more traffic to fill those roads…but local and my local rightwing rag are determined to cast him as the villain.

The rightwing bias of this piece is so blatant with its opening paragraph:

‘A climate activist who has cost taxpayers tens of millions of pounds by bringing a string of legal challenges to upgrade works on the A47 is coming under pressure to abandon his latest case.’

Dr Boswell’s case is crowdfunded as many want him to stand up to the deceitful government not meeting its climate commitments.

His actions are entirely legal…which is why Tory MPs and press are tarnishing his reputation.

Political systems that rely on financial donations are by their very nature corrupt.

Instead of perpetuating the broken system, why doesn’t #Labour make the case for a publicly funded political process?

And how laughably cheap was it was to buy off Rachel #Reeves from taking real climate action???

Sixty years ago today — 29 January 1964 — Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece "Dr. Strangelove" was released.

That movie could be both the most hilarious AND the most terrifying you will ever see.

Have you felt any of this? If you're like me, probably some or even most of it!

Eight Climate Emotions

⓵ Climate Anger: Climate anger is characterized by intense frustration, resentment, irritation, or outrage as a result of the perceived inadequacy of climate change action taken by governments. This often stems from witnessing the consequences of environmental degradation, the slow pace of mitigation efforts, denial of scientific evidence, or insufficient responses by policy makers, corporations, and society at large.

⓶ Climate Anxiety: Individuals experiencing climate anxiety may feel overwhelmed, stressed, or fearful about environmental changes and the uncertain future of the planet, their own lives or those of their loved ones, children, and future generations.

⓷ Climate Powerlessness: Climate powerlessness refers to feelings of helplessness, pessimism, apathy, inadequacy, or a lack of control that individuals experience in response to the scale and complexity of global environmental issues and the changes required to live a truly sustainable lifestyle. Research shows that individuals often experience “solastalgia,” or psychological distress resulting from environmental degradation.

⓸ Climate Guilt: Climate guilt refers to feelings of remorse, self-blame, and moral responsibility due to an individual’s perceived contribution to climate change, often arising from awareness of one's carbon footprint, unsustainable lifestyle choices, and feelings of not doing enough to help the planet.

⓹ Climate Isolation: Climate isolation refers to feeling disconnected, isolated or alone in one’s concern and understanding of the climate crisis, often fueled by perceptions that environmental concerns are not widely acknowledged or prioritized by their larger community.

⓺ Climate Enthusiasm: Climate enthusiasm refers to a positive and proactive emotional response to climate change and involves feeling inspired, hopeful, motivated, and energized to contribute to solutions. It is the belief in oneself and their community’s ability to meaningfully impact the trajectory of climate change.

⓻ Climate Contempt: Climate contempt is characterized by a dismissive or scornful attitude toward climate change discourse. Here, individuals downplay the severity of environmental issues, reject scientific consensus, or demonstrate a lack of concern for climate change stemming from various factors, including ideological beliefs or a desire to avoid the discomfort of acknowledging the urgency and gravity of the crisis. Interestingly, a 2023 study found that those who believe in an afterlife display a lower fear of death or extinction and are less likely to engage in sustainability practices as the fate of the Earth may seem secondary to an anticipated eternal existence.

⓼ Climate Sorrow: Climate sorrow involves a deep sense of sadness, grief, mourning, and concern for animal suffering, harm to ecosystems, and future generations.

MPs continue to lie using copy and paste statements from Number 10 to write back to constituents to tell them new fossil fuel licenses in North Sea are about energy security and reducing bills.

It’s complete BS when 80% of ‘our’ North Sea oil is exported overseas. But in any case the licensing to foreign companies means it’s not the UK that would ever benefit, just the execs.
