Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called for Supreme Court Justice to be impeached, and says that she is willing to draft and introduce articles of impeachment herself.

She said in the announcement:

"I just think that if no one's going to introduce it, I would certainly be open to doing so and drafting them myself." She added, "I think this has gone far, far beyond any sort of acceptable standard in any democracy, let alone an American democracy."

Dems/public protest support her effort?

Tomorrow Trump's $175M bond may be ruled null and void.

Just a quick reminder that Trump is facing two tough court reckonings tomorrow. Everyone will be following the opening statements in his NY election fraud trial, but nearby his lawyers will be meeting with NY prosecutors and Judge Engoron to rule on the validity of his 'fishy' $175M bond for his business fraud conviction. If the bond is deemed invalid, asset seizure to cover the $450M+ judgement may commence.

"Kirschner explained: "First movants fail to meet their burden of establishing that there is sufficiently secure and ascertainable collateral backing the bond. Second, the court should not rely on KSIC's financial summary attached to the bond as evidence that KSIC has sufficient capacity to justify writing a $175 million bond. Third, under the regulations that govern the placement of insurance on an excess line...KSIC is not qualified to act as the surety."

Might be wrong here, but seems like this may be a bigger deal than a clerical error as is being widely reported:

Rejected and ‘returned for correction’: Docs for Trump’s $175M bond get bounced >>> https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/rejected-and-returned-for-correction-docs-for-trumps-175m-bond-get-bounced/

It may be that the bond company didn't report their financials because they have insufficient collateral to secure a bond of this magnitude. In which case the bond is no good, Trump doesn't have a bond, and he is out of time.

Let's see how this gets resolved...

Thickening indeed.

"The court would likely reject Trump's bond if the paperwork is not corrected. That would mean Trump would lose his right to appeal Engoron's fraud judgment and the $454 million would be due.

Attorney Tristan Snell, author of Taking Down Trump about his experience suing Trump on behalf of students of the failed Trump University, noted that the insurance paperwork has been "returned for correction""

We all know Trump is supposed to hold the stock for 6 months, but when has he ever done the proper thing? This is a worthwhile analysis of Trump's options right now.

Also:

"The large mismatch between stock price and stock value will sorely tempt the cash-poor Trump to sell off a significant portion of his shares, in a potential maneuver that I believe I am the first to label 'Trump and dump.'"

I think that's strong enough to trend eventually.

"Speaking in hushed tones and intermittently flashing a menacing smile, Britt—the former CEO of an Alabama corporate lobbying organization and the wife of a lobbyist—said from the comfort of her posh kitchen inside her 6,000-square-foot mansion that she understands and sympathizes with 'what real families are facing.'"

This piece really nails the experience here: "As New York magazine's Ed Kilgore noted, the substance of Britt's speech "was right from the Donald Trump American Carnage repertoire, treating the condition of the country as a vast hellscape of rampaging immigrants, blighted communities, and terrified, impoverished families."

"Trump is an oath-breaking insurrectionist." -- Associate Justices Sotomayor, Kagan and Jackson.

Importantly, the SCOTUS ruling concerns state's authority to bar Trump. It says nothing about whether Trump engaged in insurrection. It would seem that the Colorado court's determination that he did stands.

But whatever the courts say, it does not change the facts. We saw it with our own eyes. He can not be 'vindicated'. He engaged in months of criminality to illegally change the results of the election. He sent a armed mob to the Capital, and refused to call them off for hours. People died.

@mastodonmigration

Not surprising and the helpful part is that it does not rule on the question of whether or not he is an insurrectionist.
What it does affirm that the states do have the right to bar other insurrectionist who run for state or local office. People like Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Green, et al.
Look likes there should be some organizing around specific people in specific states. Even the efforts could put people on notice.

What was instructive about the lengthy thread of allegations shared by House Republicans (and dutifully reshared by Elon) was less the picked cherries it included than the things it avoided. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/27/biden-impeachment-inquiry-comer/

@SpeakerJohnson’s reelection campaign received $$$ from a Russian oligarch donor. May better explain why he refuses to bring Ukraine aid bill to the floor for a vote.

That did not recuse himself from today's issue before tells us all me we need to know about his and the court's depth of compromise and corruptive impairment.
