This is so damaging to society. It's good that people care enough to do the hard work to find these spaces and host these events. It's good that these events are popular and are bringing people.

But unfortunately these events are being held in the shadows, and have to be. The people holding these events are providing a great service, but when it is not in the public square as it has been, the strength is diminished. This idea that black history itself is racist, only breeds racism. Programs like these, like those that were stripped from schools, breed empathy. Empathy that is desperately needed right now.

DeSantis orders Florida National, State Guard members to Texas border ( www.orlandosentinel.com )

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday he is sending National and Florida State Guard troops to Texas to help that state put up razor wire fences on the southern border, a move in apparent defiance of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the contentious immigration issue....

GroundedGator ,

This is the most disgusting shit. All of this border cruelty.

I have tried to think of a situation where I would put my family in peril and hand over my life savings for just a chance of a better life, not even a guarantee. I can only imagine the horror that could cause such an action.

These people are not waking up one day and just going across the border. They have journeyed for weeks, even months. Risking everything to cross some of the most treacherous terrain in the world. This is not a decision made lightly.

These are desperate people, and they are people. We may only be an economic collapse away from being just like them.

Nothing justifies intentionally causing harm to another person when your own life is not in direct threat. Most states consider it a crime to set a trap that may maim someone who breaks into your home. In Florida I would be fined or charged if I put up razor wire with the intent of harming any animal, even invasive animals that can be hunted throughout the year on public land.

But with MAGAts, cruelty is the point.

GOP Governors Invoke the Confederate Theory of Secession to Justify Border Violations ( slate.com )

This week, Republican governors across the country escalated their conflict with the Biden administration over the southern border by invoking the same legal theory that slave states wielded to justify secession before the Civil War....

GroundedGator ,

At this point Biden should stretch executive privilege and figure out how to check off as many boxes on the bill that he can. He's already subverted Congress getting aid to Israel.

What's the worst that can happen? They impeach him? They already are determined to at least give that show. I would love to see ComerPyle try to explain how they are impeaching him over increased border security.

Maybe Texas sues him. Okay Abbot, let's see how you justify suing the administration for providing more border agents, more tech, more personnel and resources.

One could argue that the MAGAts in Congress have breached the covenant of 3 coequal branches of government. I would never say that any one branch should act unilaterally, or do so without potential consequence, but this is mad. They are not doing their job, they aren't debating, and are actively throwing a tantrum like a child.

Luckily they don't have access to those. I'm not even sure the judge did. I think only the Marshalls and the clerk of courts. Otherwise they are completely sealed.

Judge Kaplan said Trump will face an anonymous nine-person jury, with the names, addresses and places of employment of prospective jurors kept secret, saying he found "strong reason" to provide special protections for jurors at the civil trial.

Kaplan also did this on the first Carroll case he presided over, for which this case was held to determine damages.

This article is one of the better ones out there but it only scratches the surface of the WTF. I highly recommend at least scanning the report.

We concluded that, except for the White House Medical Unit,
the National Capital Region executive medicine clinics that
we visited did not procure, store, or dispense controlled
substances or other prescription medications; rather, they
relied on full‑service military treatment facility pharmacies
for all pharmaceutical support. The National Capital Region
executive medicine clinics relied on full‑service base or post
pharmacies for all pharmaceutical support. Additionally, other
than the White House Medical Unit, the Joint Commission,
an independent health care accreditation agency, accredited
all National Capital Region pharmacy operations, as required
by DoD Manual 6025.13.

I can't make out everything, but that is a lot of pills. I at least see fentanyl, morphine, and codine.

Now to play a bit of a devil's advocate, the period investigated was 2017-2019. This was started due to internal reports by staff who obviously were uncomfortable with what was occurring.

I think it is likely much of what is against DoD regulation has likely been happening across many administrations. Most of the staff may not even know they were in violation.

I can't imagine that the level of controlled substances was anywhere near this level or that they were handing out Ambien and provigil like it was candy.

While it has not yet been enforced, my employer has an MDM. Because I do not want to violate this policy or install something that gives my employer access to my device, I do not use my personal device for work and I do not have a work device other than my laptop.

This has given me some interesting perspectives.

  • I do not need to be connected at all times.
  • I can walk away.
  • They pay me for work hours, not for my free time.
  • I can easily disconnect every night and weekend, even emergencies in my area can wait.

Seems people think things are much more urgent than they should be or actually are.

“It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.”

GroundedGator ,

It's frustrating to hear comments about "trans people" or "gay people" or whatever other identifier they choose, the conversation is never about treating them like people. The way they speak would make more sense if they were talking about a stray dog than an actual feeling, thinking person.

Trans folk are the newest "others," though it seems that others basket is getting quite full lately.

Anytime someone in power says anything about needing to protect you from others, they are purposely sowing discord. It is the speaker that is trying to direct your anger away from them and unto the others.

Everyone is capable of being awesome and assholes. No identifying characteristic makes one anymore likely to be an asshole.

GroundedGator ,

This is actually a very important distinction. To say that he cannot both work for the citizens as a paid member of the administration and work on the campaign.

GroundedGator ,

I remember getting it from Coca-Cola about that time. Even packed it with a logo.
