What is most disturbing is the violence used against peaceful minors, they were not causing turmoil or damaging structures. This should not pass silently.

I love that meme and I already sent it to my friends, unfortunately for me not only I remained poor but I also interiorized so much the idea that "it's my fault and something must be wrong with me" that I ended up thinking my boomer parents were just right about everything.

I am leaning towards skepticism about every hint that a "different future is possible" and that social justice will prevail in the end. The current geopolitical, environmental, economic and financial crises point to something else.

My top choices:

  • Jerboa and Eternity are native Android apps (the first uses modern technologies like Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, the second one has a lot of Java code and the UI is made with XML layouts for activities/fragments);
  • Voyager is portable web app built with React in Typescript, with mobile flavours made using Ionic capacitor;
  • Thunder is a cross-platform app built with Flutter in Dart (like Liftoff and Lemmur were in their days);
  • there are other FOSS apps like Combustibile (native/Java+XML) or Muffed (Flutter)...

That's an interesting point... Jerboa should handle Lemmy handles correctly in the form !element@host.

Also hyperlinks in the form of https://host/u/name (or https://host/c/name) are intercepted and opened in app.

I'm not its maintainer but I read its source code and IIRC those cases are handled...

Closed source, though.

I wish I had your determination! For me proprietary software is like committing a sin, I know I shouldn't do it but sometimes it's stronger than me.

Sad but true. And not only Poland, every single European country will either have to choose which superpower to pay tributes to.

This is the price the EU has to pay for having wanted to expand to the East without verifying that the annexed countries were meeting requirements or were mature enough democracies. And the price to pay is immobilism today (in a situation that would rather require action) and doom tomorrow.

But, since we are on Lemmy where the average user goes like "Europeans are ex-colonialist capitalist exploiters and need to be eaten alive", in the end I think the situation is going towards the better for humanity.

This happened during a historical commemorative event (for an episode happened in the 70s where some people who belonged to a far right group were killed and the perpetrators were never processed) which happens every year and nobody ever cared about it. Suddenly I'm 2024 everyone is pointing fingers.

Italy is what it is, everyone here who feels superior and judge should look at their own country: all Europe (East and West, South and North) is leaning towards the far right except Spain, so don't feel so superior. Even not agreeing with any f#scist regime, being told that we are a "sh#t country" or other things written in the comments here is not pleasant at all.

Agree... but some innovation is needed in the opposition because the current left wing parties in Italy have betrayed their electoral basis quite a few times in the past and people (workers, middle class, the majority of the population in practice, except high bourgeoisie and the ultra-rich) don't feel represented any more.

With the ridiculous salaries they will be offered and the poor shift organization they will find, even foreign doctors will last very little. Unless they are forced to sign long term "slavery style" contracts with penalties if they resign earlier.

Italy is turning to private healthcare, there's no way back. And the US demonstrate to the world that this is a winning model... right? right? oh sh*t...

We're family: Catholic, Latinos, good food, sun and beach ⛱️ who cares for the healthcare system, one day we will all be dead anyway!

Really hope it matures and grows into a reliable and full-fledged client! Your help (reporting bugs, submitting feedback, suggesting ideas, etc.) has been very valuable so far 🙏

Never say never... adding a JVM flavour to convert it to a desktop app is technically possible and, even if some native parts would need to be reimplemented (gallery selection of images, etc) it would be a fun exercise to do so.

Jerboa is awesome and has got better and better over time. And it being open source is a great value given to the whole Lemmy community. Whenever I have doubts, I look at Jerboa's code as a sacred book for guidance, meditation and inspiration 😂 once you get accustomed to some of their idiosyncrasies it has all the answers!

In my country, 2030 is foreseen as the year the public retirement plan administration system will collapse due to this.

Dismantling public healthcare is a solution our government is already going for to the detriment of everyone (unfortunately) but public retirement plans cannot be changed retroactively to any extent, they are reducing the highest pensions and blocking the rest of them (inflation will de facto lower even the blocked ones) while at the same time increasing the retirement age progressively but still it isn't enough.

We're doomed, no matter how much blood and tears.

That's a known bug which has been partially solved in the latest development build, have a look here. There were issues with markdown rendering when there were both text and images.
